The Nintendo Wii U gaming platform was released in November 2012 and it has been a great wonder that one of the Japanese gaming company’s most popular video game franchises, “The Legend of Zelda” has yet to come out on the platform until today.
Nintendo’s other popular gaming franchises including “Mario Kart” and “Super Smash Bros” already have their Wii U versions long ago but “The Legend of Zelda” has yet to have one, notes the Gospel Herald.
Latest reports have it that action-adventure video game “The Legend of Zelda” will finally make it to the Nintendo Wii U in the spring of 2016.
However, astute gamers and fans of “The Legend of Zelda” appeared to have grown tired of the rumors about the game coming to the Wii U. Prior to the speculations that “The Legend of Zelda” will make it to the Wii U, reports say that the game on the Wii U platform will come out in the first quarter of 2016.
Because the latest reports about “The Legend of Zelda” on Wii U came from unconfirmed sources, it has become a cautionary tale with Nintendo.
One of the game’s variant, “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess” actually made it to the Nintendo Wii U and it became a huge hit, especially because it allowed players to use the new Wii U remote like a sword.
The simplicity of controls of the game has led to its success on Wii U and shortly thereafter became the No. 1 system. Unfortunately, the Wii U was not able to compete with the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
Why the game was not released immediately on the Wii U
When fans started asking when will the base game of “The Legend of Zelda” will come out on the Nintendo Wii U, the Japanese gaming company said back then that it would be coming out sometime in 2015.
But now that 2015 is about to draw to a close, it seems that the promise of Nintendo has gone haywire, although a few months ago, the company did say that it will be delaying the release of “The Legend of Zelda” on Wii U to next year, notes Design & Trend.
The Japanese gaming company is also set to formally launch its latest gaming console in the Nintendo NX at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 to be held in June next year so the chances of “The Legend of Zelda” on Wii U coming out before the event are high.
In fact, there are also reports coming out stating that “The Legend of Zelda” on the Nintendo NX may come out in December next year.
Confirmed for release
Because of the long delay on the release of “The Legend of Zelda” on the Wii U gaming console, there have been speculations going around that Nintendo is seriously considering not releasing the game at all on the particular gaming platform.
Reports have it that Nintendo is planning to roll out its NX gaming console soon. So rather than focus on developing “The Legend of Zelda” game on its Wii U, which is way past its prime, the Japanese gaming company will reportedly focus on developing the version of the game on the NX.
However, Eiji Aonuma, long-time series producer of “The Legend of Zelda,” said recently that they have not given up on the development of the game for Wii U.
Aonuma also debunked speculations that the release of “The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes” on 3DS in October caused further delay in the release of “The Legend of Zelda” on Wii U.
He said that the new game did not, in a way, make an impact to the progress of the game for Wii U because the development of each one had no bearing on the other. He added that each game has its own development team.
Aonuma also said that sometimes, people on the handheld team do work on the consoles but it was a separate team.
The series producer also denied reports that Nintendo is already abandoning its plan for the development of “The Legend of Zelda” on Wii U because of the upcoming NX console.
