The Leftovers Season 3 Wraps Up Shoot, Slotted For A 2017 Release, Lindelof Provides Insights About The Upcoming Season!

The Leftovers, based on Tom Perrotta’s novel of the same name, completed filming for the third and final season. The official Twitter page of the HBO series confirmed that the shoot has concluded.

The tweet confirming the wrap up of the schedule for The Leftovers accompanied a photo of three director’s seats.

Justin Theroux, who plays the role of Police Chief Kevin Garvey in the critically acclaimed series, shared a video on Instagram. It announced the news of the shoot being wrapped up and thanked the crew and cast members, everyone who worked on the series.

There was a change in the location for Season 3 of The Leftovers. The current season was shot in Melbourne, unlike the previous two seasons. The last two seasons shot in New York and Texas.  It will be interesting to note why the third season chose Melbourne for the site for the shoot.

Movie News Guide reported that The Leftovers Season 3 would start in Texas and then head to the Australian city of Melbourne. The mystery-thriller will move to the Land from Down Under to throw light on the mystery of the Sudden Departure.

Writer consultant Reza Aslan had talked about the importance of Australia. Australia is the perfect for Season 3 because of its association with ancient spiritual powers. Since Kevin Garvey Sr. (Scott Glenn) considers himself to be a shaman, he will go to Australia, to learn more about the shaman traditions.

The filming of The Leftovers Season 3 started in Austin, Texas. After wrapping the Texas leg of the shoot in June, the crew and cast flew to Melbourne to shoot for the rest of the season. A photo of a half-naked Justin Theroux was circulated on the internet while the filming was on in Austin.

All the past cast members are back for The Leftovers Season 3 except Ann Dowd who played the role of Patti. Parent Herald reported that according to Damon Lindelof, the character of Patti had reached a finality in Season 2 of The Leftovers.

However, there wasn’t any confirmation on whether Ann Dowd will be completely absent from Season 3 of The Leftovers. Fans are hopeful that Ann Dowd might return for at least a cameo in the upcoming season.

Liv Tyler had shared a photo of a wall with the pictures of the cast members of The Leftovers Season 3. Fans realized that Ann Dowd’s photo was up on the wall along with the other cast members.

Damon Lindelof had revealed that The Leftovers was never a series to answer questions and solve the mysteries touched upon on the show. He never took the effort to focus on the mysteries and weave a story to explain them.

He let the story unfold and provide answers to all queries. However, things seem to have changed. With Season 3 being the final season of The Leftovers, Damon Lindelof feels that he owes his fans closure.

Given the kind of series The Leftovers has been, Damon Lindelof clarified that the finale wouldn’t have an element of surprise or shock. He also made it clear that the show might not answer all the questions. They will leave some things unsaid.

Christian Post reported that the new season would see a significant time leap. The final season will also be a complete departure from the original format of the series.

Fans of The Leftovers were disappointed when they found out that the series will end with the third season. While the decision to terminate the series with Season 3 was a creative decision, the viewers are aware that HBO wasn’t happy with the rating.
