“The Last of Us” was released exclusively on the PlayStation 3 in June 2013. A little over one year later, it also hit the PlayStation 4. Unless Sony comes up with a new gaming console in 2017 or earlier, “The Last of Us 2” will be released exclusively on the PlayStation 4 and it is likely that Naughty Dog shall also make it available afterwards on the PlayStation 3.
Games developed by Naughty Dog are exclusive to the PlayStation gaming consoles because its publisher is Sony Computer Entertainment.
When “The Last of Us” was released in June 2013, it was lauded by many game critics for its great characterization, subtext, exploration of the human condition, and depiction of female characters.
The game also became one of the best-selling PlayStation 3 games in 2013, selling over 1.3 million copies right on its first week of release. After 14 months in the market “The Last of Us” had already sold over eight million units.
“The Last of Us” is considered as one of the greatest video games of all time, having won year-end accolades including 240 ‘Game of the Year’ awards from several gaming publications and game review bodies. It is, in fact, one of the most awarded games in the history of gaming.
A few months after the release of “The Last of Us,” Naughty Dog released a DLC titled “The Last of Us: Left Behind” that added a new single-player campaign, which takes place before and during the main story featuring Ellie and her friend Riley.
Gamers are hoping that when “The Last of Us 2” is released in about two years time, it will be as good as “The Last of Us,” if not better.
