The action-adventure survival horror game “The Last of Us,” developed by Naughty Dog, had Joel and Ellie as the lead protagonists. However, speculations have it that the upcoming sequel to the video game shall have new lead characters and different locations.
Instead of Joel and Ellie, there will be several new characters that shall be headlining “The Last of Us 2,” one of whom is reportedly named Tommy.
According to reports, Joel and Ellie will still be in the storyline of the game. However, the same rumors state that Joel will die, leaving Ellie to try to survive on her own. It will be on that point where she will meet new characters and they shall move from one place to another to ensure their survival. It is possible that one of the new characters she will meet along the way is Tommy, details the Vine Report.
There are also reports that Ellie will try to convince other people that she is immune to zombie bite infection in order to have a companion or companions in her journey. The rest of the details of the game’s main plot are still sketchy at this time.
Game’s development in the works
While Naughty Dog has yet to issue a statement or make an announcement regarding the ongoing development and release date of “The Last of Us 2” exclusively on PlayStation 4, it was actually voice actor Nolan North who made the disclosure during a panel at the MetroCon 2015 in Tampa, Florida held in June, details the Christian Today.
North revealed that there will be “The Last of Us 2,” confirming that Naughty Dog is already working on the development of the game.
He was also asked by a fan during the event if he will be involved in other projects of Naughty Dog other than the action-adventure third-person shooter video game “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.” North said he won’t be because “Uncharted 4” will be his last for the game development company. He then said that what he knows is that Naughty Dog is now working on “The Last of Us 2.”
Incidentally, the profile of Naughty Dog in social media site LinkedIn has intentionally teased recently that a development team in the company is now working on the sequel of “The Last of Us.”
In addition, Neil Druckmann, creative director of Naughty Dog, who is also responsible for the development of “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,” recently told a magazine that he has already worked with Naughty Dog game director Bruce Straley to come up with title ideas for “The Last of Us 2.”
However, until such time that Naughty Dog makes an official statement or announcement about “The Last of Us 2,” all information regarding the game should be taken with a fine grain of salt for the time being.
Likely release date
Most gamers know that Naughty Dog is currently busy with “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,” which is to be the concluding title to the very successful “Uncharted” video game franchise.
The game is set for release in the spring of next year, which means that Naughty Dog can only focus its attention and energy on “The Last of Us 2” once it has freed its plate of “Uncharted 4,” which shall be exclusively released on the PlayStation 4 as well.
On the assumption that Naughty Dog will only have time for “The Last of Us 2” around the spring of next year, then it is likely that the game could arrive in the PlayStation 4 in 2017.
