American game developer Rockstar Games disappointed gamers big time when its highly-touted open world Western action-adventure video game “Red Dead Redemption 2” did not come out at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 held last week in Los Angeles, California.
But it was not just Rockstar who is now bearing the gamers’ brunt because apparently Naughty Dog is also getting the same messages of disappointments from fans and expecting players of the action-survival horror video game “The Last of Us 2.”
Before the E3 2016, fans were somehow made to believe that “The Last of Us 2” will be announced at the event because of what seemed like a “The Last of Us 2” Easter egg in the action-adventure third-person shooter video game “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” released last month by Naughty Dog exclusively on the PlayStation 4.
Some gamers and critics subsequently came out with theories that Ellie may already be pregnant in the sequel to “The Last of Us” while Joel might already be dead.
Still confident about the game’s development
Despite the non-appearance of “The Last of Us 2” at the recent E3 2016, gamers are still confident that the game is now in development.
The notion grew further after Naughty Dog lead game designer Emilia Schartz posted Naughty Dog’s latest job offering on Twitter.
The job offering says that the game developer is looking to hire several level designers, a feature that is very prominent in “The Last of Us 2.”
Schartz did not give additional information about the job offering but it was enough to give gamers and fans the hint that Naughty Dog may already be busy working on “The Last of Us 2.”
After all, the game developer has already released the biggest game in its roster in “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” last month and the possible game next in line is no other than “The Last of Us 2,” reports The Bitbag.
However, all these remain as speculation pending the confirmation or denial from Naughty Dog, which is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
A shift in development focus
Naughty Dog has reportedly started shifting its focus on “The Last of Us 2” now that its action-adventure third-person shooter video game “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” was already released on the PlayStation 4 just recently.
Most of the reports have been fairly consistent in saying that “The Last of Us 2” shall have Ellie as the main protagonist of the game as Joel is all dead and gone.
As if to tease gamers that it is already working on “The Last of Us 2,” the game developer has actually included a couple of Easter eggs on “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” including a poster in the epilogue that is very much like “The Last of Us.”
However, as if to give gamers of “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” a set of clues on what game shall Naughty Dog is going to work on, several exciting Easter eggs were intentionally put by the developer on its latest release.
The Polaroids appear to be covering the full title but it is obvious that it is “The Last of Us.” There is also a tagline underneath that reads ‘American Daughters.’
The character on the poster looks a lot like Ellie but since he or she is wearing a gas-mask, that seems debatable as Ellie is immune to the infection. Some gamers are assuming that it is Ellie’s mother because of the word ‘daughters’ in the tagline.
According to reports, “The Last of Us 2” shall be revolving around Ellie and her immunity to the virus which can be used as a weapon to finally treat the infection.
