The Last of Us 2 May Add an LGBT Character as Second Main Protagonist After Ellie, New Rumors Claim!

After developer Naughty Dog officially released the action-adventure third-person shooter video game “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” exclusively on the PlayStation 4 in May this year, speculations started swirling that the sequel to the action-survival horror video game franchise “The Last of Us” would be up next on its plate.

Before the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 held in June, fans were somehow made to believe that “The Last of Us 2” will be announced at the event because of what seemed like a “The Last of Us 2” Easter egg in “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,” cites the Vine Report.

In a recent interview, game director Neil Druckmann also confirmed that Naughty Dog shall be focusing on time jumps in the storylines of its next game.

While he did not specifically mention that such plot is going to be part of “The Last of Us 2,” some gamers and critics took it to mean that the new story may have something to do with the game.

In fact, there have been reports that came out subsequently saying that it could actually feature game characters going back and forth through time to fix the problems that are ailing the world in the game.

Accordingly, there will be a number of characters in the upcoming video game that will head back into the past to try and change things so that the infection would not happen.

But it was only up to that point that Druckmann made the revelation, refusing to further divulge details.

Ellie shall be the one remaining standing

“The Last of Us” had a rather morally ambiguous ending, which means that the sequel might see that one of the two main characters going out while the other one has to pull the trigger on the other.

In “The Last of Us,” Ellie willingly offered herself to undergo surgery in order to help the renegade Fireflies find a cure for the disease that has plagued the world since Ellie is immune from the virus. But if she goes under the knife, she will die in the process.

Joel did not want Ellie to proceed with her plan because he believes that there is still an option. So he killed everyone at Fireflies then lied to Ellie when she woke up.

He said that there are others like her and a cure will most likely be found. The credits of the video game followed shortly and gamers really felt that they were given a cliffhanger, similar to watching a season finale of a TV series.

According to critics, “The Last of Us 2” may see Ellie getting the right motivation to kill Joel, which is why there are also rumors saying that Joel shall no longer be part of the sequel.

Ellie shall be mad with Joel for lying to her after she woke up from the supposed operation. The young lady wanted to offer herself as a sacrifice so the Fireflies organization can perform an experiment on her and find the cure to the infection. But Joel is opposed to the idea when he learned from Fireflies leader Marlene that Ellie could die from the operation.

An LGBT character

Following reports that Ellie shall become the main protagonist in “The Last of Us 2,” there are now speculations claiming that the game would be adding an LGBT character to become its second main protagonist, notes Game & Guide.

It is apparently part of the move of Naughty Dog to apply diversity to the storyline of “The Last of Us 2.”

This was sort of confirmed by a recent statement from Druckmann who said that they are trying to accomplish some diversity or more of it for “The Last of Us 2.”
