Indeed, there are also fans of the original “The Last of Us” who believed that the game was too dark in places and could have used some cheering up in the story. Of course, it was never meant to tell a fairy tale and it was quite grim from the start, but even that should have been limited, according to some.
Naughty Dog certainly know how to balance dark themes with a slight dose of humor where appropriate, and even though “The Last of Us” isn’t a comedy game, it had its small moments of darker humor that were received quite well by fans.
Because of this, some have been hoping that the new game might push this trend even further, with the developers coming up with a sarcastic, dark storyline that leaves players scratching their heads and wondering if they should laugh or cry.
We wouldn’t put it past the writers at Naughty Dog to do something like that. But as we said above, the game is not even officially announced yet and we have no idea if it’s in development right now or not. The small “confirmation” by Nolan North might have been based on incorrect knowledge on his side, but knowing how closely attached he is to the projects of the studio, that would be a pretty surprising development to consider.
