‘The Last of Us 2’ Game Director Confirms Objective of Diversity by Casting an LGBT Character as Secondary Protagonist

Months before the open-world action-adventure third-person shooter video game, “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,” came out exclusively on the PlayStation 4 in May this year, there were reports saying that developer “Naughty Dog” would start working on the development of “The Last of Us 2” soon thereafter.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that Naughty Dog finally confirmed that the development of “The Last of Us 2” is now all systems go.

While there were initial reports claiming that “The Last of Us 2” could come out in the gaming consoles next year, analysts think that the earliest that Naughty Dog could finish and release the game is in 2018, with 2021 as the farthest possible date.

The news certainly doused cold water on the hopes that the game could come out next year.

Game director Neil Druckmann said that he now has a small team over at Naughty Dog that is working on the development of “The Last of Us 2.”

Diversity of the story

Druckmann also said that his team is currently working on the diversity of the story. The game director also confirmed that he has been looking at infusing diversity in the game by adding an LGBT character as the game’s secondary protagonist, reports News Everyday.

There were reports early this year stating that Naughty Dog has been working on “The Last of Us 2” since the onset of 2016 and the game development was apparently delayed due to the fact that the game developer needs to work on the DLC for “Uncharted 4” A Thief’s End” scheduled for release before the end of this year.
.
It could be recalled that “The Last Of Us” is one of the best games that was exclusively released for Sony PlayStation. The game earned a 10 of 10 grade as it also won numerous ‘Game of the Year’ awards.

In a recent interview, game director Neil Druckmann also confirmed that Naughty Dog shall be focusing on time jumps in the storylines of its next game.

While he did not specifically mention that such plot is going to be part of “The Last of Us 2,” some gamers and critics took it to mean that the new story may have something to do with the game.

Time travel to be part of the features of the game

In fact, there have been reports that came out subsequently saying that it could actually feature game characters going back and forth through time to fix the problems that are ailing the world in the game.

Accordingly, there will be a number of characters in the upcoming video game that will head back into the past to try and change things so that the infection would not happen.

But it was only up to that point that Druckmann made the revelation, refusing to further divulge details.

“The Last of Us” also had a rather morally ambiguous ending, which means that the sequel might see that one of the two main characters has to go while the other one has to pull the trigger on the other.
