We would still expect to see plenty of rumors about the game over the next months, and all the way up until its possible release though. And if the past has taught us anything, those rumors will only get more intense as time goes by.
If Naughty Dog are serious about this, they should probably give a hint or two to their fans to at least indicate their general direction for the game. Otherwise, they’re leaving far too much in the hands of those who like to spread rumors and speculate, and this could harm the game in the long run.
If fans get mislead by some of the more outrageous claims going around, this could negatively affect their opinion of an otherwise solid game, and this has actually happened in the past.
Because of this, those who don’t want to find themselves burned by this release should probably avoid following those rumors too much, and focus on things that come directly from Naughty Dog themselves. It’s usually hard to resist the temptation to see what others are saying about the game, but it’s very important for those who value their experience with it.
Plus, after all, “The Last of Us” was the kind of game that was best experienced by surprise, without knowing much about it beforehand, so following the news about the sequel doesn’t make much sense.
