Game developer Naughty Dog recently said that it has not yet proceeded with the development of the action-survival horror video game “The Last of Us 2” even after it released its PlayStation 4-exclusive third-person shooter video game “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” in May this year.
Apparently, the developer got itself busy instead with the development of the remastered version of “The Last of Us” which it plans to release to the PlayStation 4 Pro soon.
Reports have it that “The Last of Us” has been updated to better suit the features of the new Sony gaming console as the remastered version of the game will run in 4K resolution at 30 frames per second. Gamers can opt to play the game at 60 frames per second but it would limit the display resolution to 1080 pixels, details the Parent Herald.
There were also reports saying that Naughty Dog needs at least three years to complete the development of the sequel to “The Last of Us” so it is possible that the earliest that the game could come out in the PlayStation 4, and perhaps in the PlayStation 4 Pro too, is in 2019.
But some fans are optimistic that the game could come out in 2018 considering the pace of game development of Naughty Dog.
Development got sidetracked
There have been previous speculations about the release date of “The Last of Us 2.” Not too long ago, voice actor Nolan North and series creator Neil Druckmann confirmed that the sequel is in the conceptualization stage already.
But it was halted somehow to give way to the development of “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,” notes the University Herald.
Back then Neil Druckmann disclosed that they have already brainstormed various directions on where to take “The Last of Us 2.” He also revealed that they also thought of new character ideas for a sci-fi or fantasy game, and also considered returning to the stories of Joel and Ellie, who were the main protagonists for “The Last of Us.”
Druckmann said that they were already close to finalizing their ideas for “The Last of Us 2” when the management asked them to focus instead on the development of the fourth and final installment of the “Uncharted” franchise. And the rest is history.
Singing a different tune
Several weeks ago, Naughty Dog was singing a different tune when it confirmed that the development of “The Last of Us 2” was already all systems go.
While there were initial reports claiming that “The Last of Us 2” could come out in the gaming consoles next year, analysts think that the earliest that Naughty Dog could finish and release the game is on 2018, with 2021 as the farthest possible release date.
Late in September, Neil Druckmann said that he now has a small team over at Naughty Dog that is working on the development of “The Last of Us 2.”
Druckmann also said that his team is currently working on the diversity of the story. The game director also confirmed that they are looking at diversity in the game by adding an LGBT character as the game’s secondary protagonist.
There were reports early this year stating that Naughty Dog has been working on “The Last of Us 2” since the onset of 2016 and the game development was apparently delayed due to the fact that the game developer needed to work on the DLC for “Uncharted 4” A Thief’s End” scheduled for release before the end of this year.
.
It could be recalled that “The Last Of Us” is one of the best games that was exclusively released for Sony PlayStation. The game earned a 10 of 10 grade as it also won numerous ‘Game of the Year’ awards.
In a recent interview, game director Neil Druckmann also confirmed that Naughty Dog shall be focusing on time jumps in the storylines of “The Last of Us 2.”
