Even though Brad Bird confirmed the existence of “The Incredibles 2” a while back, generating quite a bit of hype across the Internet, we still don’t know many specific details about it, including the most important question of all – the film’s release date. There are various rumors going around regarding when the production will be completed, and the most prominent ones put the release date around 2017-2018.
The earliest predictions for the new film’s release claim that it may come out on November 22, 2017. Another possibility is in June 2018, but that’s mostly based on the previous release dates that the studio was following. Obviously they are under no obligation to have the same schedule for “The Incredibles 2”, so we wouldn’t put too much weight on that prediction.
In any case, most rumors are claiming that the film will be ready around the end of 2017, or the beginning/middle of 2018. Those seem like reasonable timeframes for the production of a film like this, especially considering Brad Bird’s claims about his current issues coming up with a good script.
We don’t know if he has a solid draft of the script yet or not, but there have been some rumors about the possible storyline of the new film. According to those, the story will be strongly focused on Jack-Jack, who will have some trouble controlling his special powers, attracting the attention of a villain who would apparently try to convert him to his own side and exploit his naïve state.
We may even see Jack-Jack going up against his own parents in some way, and this could make for a very interesting storyline indeed. Other characters might be shifted around in their roles somewhat, and it’s possible that some of the more prominent members of the “cast” for the first season may be featured a little less actively now.
And of course, fans have their own theories in huge volumes, some of which have been enjoying a lot of attention within the community of the first film, and one of the most prominent speculation right now is that Edna Mode helped the Parr family defeat against the villain of the last film, but we never saw the full extent of that story. The theory is actually quite extensive and covers various details of the original film’s plot, so it does sound somewhat likely.
However, some critics have pointed out that this particular theory also has a pretty grim aspect to it – it implies that Edna created the cape worn by Syndrome with the exact knowledge of what she’s going, and more importantly, what could happen to Syndrome. At the end of the original, we saw him apparently dying due to getting caught up in a jet engine, and this could have actually been Edna’s plan all along if this theory proves to be true.
Of course, it might make the new film a bit too difficult to swallow for some of its fans, as “The Incredibles” was very popular and well-received among younger viewers. That’s why this theory might never be shown on screen even if it’s somehow true behind the scenes. Although on the other hand, it would certainly be interesting to see the producers referencing it in the future in an unofficial capacity, perhaps when discussing the film in an informal way with members of the press. It may not be received that well by all fans, but it’s going to shed some interesting new light on the storyline of the original that we never saw before.
