‘The Incredibles 2’ Pushed Up Release Date Attributed to its Accelerated Production Schedules, According to Disney Insiders

“The Incredibles 2” and “Toy Story” 4 have just swapped release dates. The announcement was made by Pixar Animation Studios on October 26.

More than anything else, the reason apparently for the switch in the scheduled playdates of the two animated movies was because of the accelerated production schedule for “The Incredibles 2,” reports The Hollywood Reporter.

It seems that Oscars-winning director Brad Bird, who helmed “The Incredibles” when it was released to theaters in 2014 and who shall also be helming the sequel, got to a rather good head start in both the pre-production and production works for “The Incredibles 2” that a release date that is one year earlier has become possible.

When the original film was released in 2004, it grossed more than $633 million in the global box office.

Disney and Pixar are hoping that “The Incredibles 2” shall go on to join the prestigious billion-dollar club which several of its animated movies got into including “Toy Story 3,” “Frozen,” “Zootopia,” and just recently “Finding Dory.”

Also in the list of the animated billion-dollar club films is the “Minions” from Universal and Illumination Entertainment.

A positive result for ‘The Incredibles 2’

The pushed up release date of “The Incredibles 2” has certainly excited its enthusiastic and anxiously awaiting fans as the sequel to the 2004 hit movie shall come out 14 years later and no longer 15 years.

While the switch in the release dates would not affect the plotlines of both films, what seems clear that an earlier date on the theaters for a long-awaited sequel usually brings positive results as seen in the case of “Finding Dory” which came out in June this year, 13 years after its predecessor movie “Finding Nemo” hit the cinemas.

As for “Toy Story 4,” being pushed back by one year would hardly be felt considering that “Toy Story 3” came out in theaters only in 2010 so nine years of wait would hardly matter to its fans.

That’s in addition to the fact that Disney already has an army of Marvel, and “Star Wars” movies on the horizon, which would give fans plenty to keep themselves occupied for the foreseeable future, reports Cinema Blend.

Assuring the same feel for the sequel

Disney Pictures has confirmed as early as last year that there will be a “The Incredibles 2” movie that would come out in theaters on June 15, 2018, which is less down two years from today.

Brad Bird, who directed the first movie shown in 2004, was also confirmed to direct the sequel that would come out 14 years after the original film.

When he was asked recently for possible hints about the movie, Bird said that he is a type of person who does not like to give out spoilers because he also does not like unwrapping presents before Christmas.

But he confirmed that pre-production work for “The Incredibles 2” has already started, saying that it is actively moving and that everyone is getting excited about it.

Bird also said that he wanted to take the movie into new directions but he assured fans that “The Incredibles 2” would have the same feel as the first film. He also promised that the upcoming film shall have a great storyline because he would not agree to do a sequel if he does not see a great storyline for it.

He also explained that the trick to the sequel is to actually repeat oneself without repeating oneself.

Bird also said that “The Incredibles 2,” just like its original film, shall focus on the characters and not their superpower abilities.

the incredibles 2

He explained that powers themselves are not that interesting in a superhero movie like “The Incredibles 2” because it is already a time-tested formula for this day and age where superhero films come almost three to four times a year.

The director said that it is the people in the film that are interesting and how they react to having those powers that they were given.
