“The Incredibles 2” is still some time away – and we have no idea how long exactly. The last that we heard about the film was that Brad Bird was still hard at work on its plot, although exact details of his progress weren’t revealed back then. Apparently, the director is still juggling various ideas around and trying to figure out where he wants to take the next film. And from the various rumors that we keep hearing about it, he might have some pretty interesting ideas in mind.
One of the most prominent rumors that have been going around concerns Jack-Jack, who will be a little grown up in the new film – apparently, the story takes place several years in the future – and will be going through some life difficulties. More specifically, he’ll have trouble using his powers properly, while on the other hand he might also have some issues with his peers and fitting in generally.
That’s where the villain of the film comes in, taking Jack-Jack under his wing in order to convert him to his evil side. We might even see Jack-Jack going up against his parents at some point, but as we said above, exact details of the plot remain unconfirmed as Brad Bird is still sorting these things out. We don’t know who the villain might be, but one popular rumor circulates around Syndrome, and that’s actually not a bad guess according to some fans of the original “The Incredibles”.
Something else that’s been getting mentioned more and more frequently recently is that Edna Mode might become a lot more important in the new film. It might turn out that she was actually responsible for the original defeat of Syndrome in a way that wasn’t made immediately obvious, and that will apparently be given more attention in the new film. In addition, she will be put in a more central spot in the new storyline, if the rumors are true.
With Brad Bird still in the earlier stages of his work on the script, we don’t know when exactly we might see the new film coming out. Expectations are currently circling around 2017-2018, although that’s just a random guess based on the director’s previous works as well as the state of the industry in general.
The studio should definitely not wait too long to bring out the sequel though, as fans have been waiting for a continuation of the original story for quite some time now. And with the current rumors about the new plot becoming so prominent and active in the media, it will be a huge disappointment to many fans if they learn that they’ll have to wait a really long time for the new film to be ready.
Brad Bird himself hasn’t made any predictions about the release date, but the director doesn’t like to speak about his upcoming work too much in general. We expect that he will open up a bit once he has some extra details about the plot to share with us, but judging by the rumors that he’s still in an earlier stage of planning that plot, we don’t expect to hear about the film anytime soon.
