‘The Incredibles 2’ Director Brad Bird Says that the Greatest Special Effects of the Movie are its Characters

Director Brad Bird, who has recently hinted that production for “The Incredibles 2” may start this year, says that despite some fan expectations for fireballs or slam-bang actions typical of most superhero movies, he said that the greatest special effects of the upcoming movie will be its characters.

Unlike most directors of superhero movies these days, Bird believes that the characters are the main ingredient of the film always. He explained that fireballs are only as good as the characters in the film and that fireballs are not enough to make an impact to the viewers, details Crossmap.

He said that both Disney and Pixar do not really look to sequels as financial projections because the two companies believe more on valuing the relationship between the film franchise and its audience. And as always, the goal is to come up with a sequel that is better than its predecessor.

Release date hint

While Disney Pictures has yet to confirm the release date of the sequel to the successful animated film “The Incredibles,” it looks like fans have been plotting a likely timeline for the movie based on the previous statements of Director Brad Bird.

Sometime in April, when Brad Bird was still promoting another Disney movie titled “Tomorrowland” starring George Clooney and Raffey Cassidy, he said that he will start working on “The Incredibles 2” after “Tomorrowland.”

“Tomorrowland” hit worldwide theaters on May 9, 2015 so it is likely that Director Bird has already began pre-production around that time or maybe a few weeks after that date. Thus, it is likely that production for “The Incredibles 2” will start sometime this year, details Screen Rant.

While there have been reports that “The Incredibles 2” will have a 2017 playdate on worldwide theaters, it looks like a late 2016 showing is also possible if production begins this year.

However, until Disney Pictures makes the announcement to either confirm or deny the rumors and reports currently going around about “The Incredibles 2,” these are all mere speculations at this time.

Brad Bird also said previously that he does not want to disclose so much detail about “The Incredibles 2” given the influx of superhero movies these days. He said that he does not want “The Incredibles 2” to be reduced into a footnote or commentary on the current state of the superhero genre.

Another place for heroes

Director Bird has confirmed a few months ago that he is already busy working on the script of the sequel to the very successful 2004 animated film from Disney and Pixar “The Incredibles.”

During the recent premiere of his latest film for Disney pictures “Tomorrowland,” Director Bird talked about the upcoming sequel to “The Incredibles.”

He said that a lot of superhero films have been made since ‘The Incredibles,’ making the genre looked like an athletic field that just kind of dried up dirt now with a few clumps of grass.

The director said that the challenge is coming up with another place for heroes to go. He said that more than coming up with a noteworthy sequel, he wants to have a surprise element in “The Incredibles 2” because today’s audiences have high expectations for superhero films.
