The Get Down Season 2 Awaiting a Green Signal, Will Be Set in The 80s, Is Baz Luhrmann Leaving?

The characters portrayed in The Get Down are relatable. There is Ezekiel, a high school drifter who is in love with Mylene. Mylene wants to break free from the dominance of her religious parents and takes the stand to become a disco singer.

Ezekiel and his friends find themselves living the life of the 70s and trying to find their place in the world. They learn about love and friendship and bring out the essence of hip-hop and its beginning.

Justice Smith spoke about his experience of working with Baz Luhrmann. The man might be one of the best directors in the industry, but he encouraged his young actors to debate and talk to him about their respective plots.

Smith said that he could connect with Baz Luhrmann at an artistic level. Baz showed the actors his storyboard and gave them the opportunity to point out the changes they wanted for their characters. Actors seldom get a chance to speak about these things and Smith instantly connected with this technique of Luhrmann.

Baz Luhrmann might conceptualize the whole plot and detail in the series, but he directs only the season premiere. He did hint at an early exit from The Get Down but promised fans he would stick around until his work gets completed.
