After a very interesting half-season, “The Fosters” is soon going to be back to let fans see exactly how some of the dramatic storylines are going to unfold. We saw many things happening during the first half of season four, and some fans have even been joking that the producers may not have enough screen time to fit everything they want to say in the next episodes.
One of the more noteworthy developments during the last episodes was the fake divorce of Stef and Lena. The two decided to go in that direction in order to save their current home, but it looks like their actions may have some harsh consequences.
More specifically, rumors claim that the two could eventually find themselves actually breaking up as a result of the fake divorce, and it won’t be a clean break-up either. And while the show’s producers have addressed the situation with claims that they don’t actually intend on breaking up the two characters yet, fans don’t seem so convinced.
It would be entirely in their style to surprise everyone with the break-up after all those talks, so we’re curious to see what they’re preparing for the upcoming second half of season four. At the same time, there could be some dramatic developments between other characters as well, possibly even all coming together in one big entangled mess.
Whatever the producers have been preparing for those new episodes though, it should definitely be something spectacular. The show has been suffering in the ratings department a bit lately, and some see this as a reason to question its overall future. Indeed, there have been rumors of a possible cancellation after season four, and nothing is certain right now.
It does seem like “The Fosters” still has a pretty active following, with many fans eagerly anticipating each new season, but that might not be enough for the producers or the show’s network. In any case, we’ll see how season four fares, and it will probably give us a good hint about what we can expect from the future.
Hopefully the show’s ratings are going to recover though, as there is still a lot of potential in “The Fosters” overall, and it would be a shame to see it disappearing so quickly. Some would argue that the declining viewership numbers are counter-indicative to that, but many shows have survived with even smaller audiences.
What’s important is that the people following “The Fosters” actually have a reason to look forward to its next seasons, and this means that the producers should stay true to the original values of the show instead of trying to adapt it for a larger audience. This is arguably the biggest mistakes that kill shows as a whole, and it’s not rare to see stories like this in the industry.
So far, “The Fosters” seems to be maintaining its identity pretty well, but if ratings keep going down, and the producers are pressured enough from up above, we could see some surprising changes eventually.
It’s arguable if that would justify saving the show, and many fans would probably prefer to see it quietly being put to sleep if the producers can’t find a way to generate good ratings. Maybe then they could use some ideas from the show in other productions, and achieve even better results with some fine-tuning of the special details that didn’t work out in “The Fosters”.
