In a report from Ecumenical News, when showrunners received the news of the show being axed, the series finale of Season 3 had already been filmed and there wasn’t ample time to write another script and re-shoot scenes that would give the show and its characters a fitting and proper closure.
Williamson confirms that the news was laid down to them 10 days before the series finale, which aired on May 18. He also confirms they were already underway on where the supposed Season 4 of “The Following” was heading, hence the series finale was not neatly wrapped up the way it should be with a last episode for a TV series. Williamson adds that although they knew ratings were going down, they were still hopeful that the show would be given another chance.
Nevertheless, it looked like the cast already knew what was coming ahead for the series. Weeks before the official announcement of its cancelation, stars led by Bacon himself already thanked fans for the love and support they have given the show during its run.
Appearing to be his farewell message to fans as the show’s fate was still left undecided, the 57-year-old actor took to Twitter to express his gratitude to loyal watchers detailing that it was an honor for him to be the show’s lead, adding they should enjoy the remaining episodes.
One of the best …leave it to the powers that be to cancel
Agreed! Absolutely LOVED this show!
Great show…started off a little slow, but has been edge of your seat entertainment since then. The way it was left would make for a great final season. Cmon Netflix, grab it up!!!!!
