The CW’s huge superhero drama hit “The Flash” kicked off its third season with inferior ratings compared to its previous two seasons.
The season 3 opener attracted 3.1 million viewers and drew 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Judging by the numbers, the superhero series still did well for the network.
TV Line reports that the ratings were great by CW standards, but they just weren’t quite as great for the show’s standards.
Cinema Blend notes that the Flashpoint should be one major factor that should allow viewers to get hook on the show.
Flashpoint was enough for fans to tune in to their television screens and see what happens to each and every character after Barry’s decision in the season 2 finale.
However, the series of presidential debates may have affected the show. Reports suggest that after the presidential elections in November, the show could return back to its usual ratings.
‘The Flash’ opens CW’s lineup of DC comic series. ‘Arrow’ will be following its season 5 premiere this week, the sophomore seasons of ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ and ‘Supergirl’ will premiere next week.
The DC Universe is lining up some great things this year. For one, a major crossover is set to happen in celebration of ‘Arrow’s 100th episode.
‘The Flash’ and ‘Supergirl’ is also set to have a musical crossover which the cast are looking forward to. Fans know that lead stars of both show, Grant Gustin and Mellisa Benoist, are both alums of the hit musical series ‘Glee’.
While the cast is gearing up for all the crossovers, fans would get to see those early next year.
The third season of ‘the Flash’ opened with the introduction of Flashpoint universe. Last season, Barry decided to go back in time and save his mother rendering him a new life. However, his actions also rendered major repercussions.
Iris and Barry are revealed to be acquaintances instead of best friends, but it doesn’t take them long enough to feel that they’re something more.
Barry also suffers from painful flashes that reveal that he will one day beg Eobard to kill his mother again. The flashes are one of the side effects of Barry’s decision and he experiences them through the episode.
Another of the flashes reveal the Reverse Flash telling him that the longer he stays in the Flashpoint universe, the easier it will get cemented in reality.
This means that Barry will slowly lose all his original memories from the past worlds and will live in the Flashpoint forever.
He also discovers Wally West is Kid Flash and is currently Central City’s speedster. Fans also get to meet the Flashpoint version of Cisco—who is a billionaire app developer living large.
Ultimately, Barry begs Eobard to kill his mom again and goes back in time once again. However, even with Nora killed anew, things can’t go back to the way they were as the Flashpoint still had some effects in present time.
The final scene suggests that the Flashpoint is not yet wholly gone as an ominous voice awakened The Rival—Kid Flash’s enemy—and declares the word “Alchemy.”
A few hours after the season 3 premiere, CW released a brand new teaser for the next few episodes. The one-minute clip, titled ‘Big Mistake’ shows the return of some fan-favorite characters.
John Wesley Shipp’s Henry Allen, Tom Cavanaugh’s Harry, and Violet Beane’s Jesse will return along with Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold and Arrow’s Felicity, played by Emily Bett Rickards.
The teaser also gives a first glimpse at two of this season’s big bads Mirror Master played by Grey Damon, and Ashley Rickards’ Top.
