The introduction of the alternative universe featuring other versions of the characters in “The Flash” couldn’t come at a better timing.
Episode 13, which is the first installment of the two-part “Welcome to Earth-2” episode served as the season’s golden hour and fans are so thrilled that they get to experience one more next week.
In episode 13, Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen seals all the trans-dimensional breaches except for one located in Star Labs.
The open breach was the one he, Tom Cavanagh’s Harry Wells, and Carlos Valdes’ Cisco used to travel to Earth-2 to save Harry’s daughter, Jesse.
The speed canon is however destroyed in the process leaving Caitlin and Jay, played by Danielle Panabaker and Teddy Sears, respectively, with only 48 hours to fix it or risk the lives of the three to be trapped on the other side forever.
Earth-2 revealed the character’s alternate universe versions. In this alternative universe, Barry is still working as a CSI officer for Central City Police, but he is apparently a nerdy Barry Allen.
In such world, nerdy Barry is married to Detective Iris West, played by Candice Patton. What’s interesting is that his mother is also alive and very present in his life in Earth-2.
Jesse L. Martin’s Joe West in Earth-2 is a crooner who can’t stand Barry while Caitlin and Robbie Amell’s are still together, but now they go by their doppelgangers Killer Frost and Deathstorm, respectively.
Same goes for Cisco in Earth-2, the funny tech guy is known as Reverb, someone more powerful as his original disguise, Vibe.
The hour takes a gloomy turn when Tony Todd’s Zoom finally appears. He kills off Reverb in exactly the same way the Reverse Flash killed Cisco in the erased timeline. Zoom also killed Deathstorm without any hint of hesitation.
He then captures Barry and locks him in a cell across Wells’ daughter where Zoom reveals that he is after Allen to drain him of his speed. The episode also cuts back to Earth-1 from time to time as it sees the struggle Caitlin and Jay are facing in an effort to bring back their friends.
The episode was a cliffhanger but not for long. In episode 14, Barry and Iris from Earth-2 are teaming up with Harry and Cisco from Earth-1 to save the original Barry.
The promo for next Wednesday’s episode also revealed that Harry’s daughter, Jesse is still alive. Melty reports that Zoom won’t kill Jesse yet because then he’d lose his leverage on Harry.
Zoom is also giving Barry the beat down in next Wednesday’s episode hence Cisco and Harry turning to Killer Frost for help.
Christian Post notes that Cisco and Dr. Wells must be so desperate to turn to Killer Frost for help as the villain might be the only one who knows where Zoom is hiding Barry and Jesse as she once was a former minion of Zoom.
Cartermatt reports that Killer Frost might also have agreed to help Team Flash as she seeks vengeance on Zoom for killing Deathstorm. However, Killer Frost looks a double agent as she is also seen attacking Iris.
Barry’s Earth-2 version apparently has no superhero bone in his body in this alternative universe. Judging by the promo, Team Flash will have a hard time convincing Earth-2’s Barry to join the mission of saving The Flash.
According to the episode’s synopsis, Team Flash struggles as they only have 24 hours to rescue Barry, Cisco and Dr. Wells from Earth-2. Meanwhile back on Earth-1, Dr. Snow rushes to perfect the Velocity-9 so that Jay can stop the Geomancer, played by Adam Stafford.
