Season 2 of the American superhero TV series “The Flash” on The CW is set to premiere on October 6, but the showrunners have pretty much gave the salient details of what show fans needed to know months before the series returns to the small screen.
Unlike other showrunners of other TV series who prefer to keep mum on the key details of the upcoming season of their respective shows lest they spill too many beans to the fans and spoil everything, the creators of “The Flash” believe that it is a no-brainer to keep fans out of the loop because the series is based on DC Comics.
Anybody who reads and is a fan of the DC Comics featuring “The Flash” knows what to expect from the TV series. The only difference is that the TV show puts some cinematic twist and turns or improvise on what was written on the comics.
One of the key information that “The Flash” showrunners already revealed is that the character Wally West, or Wallace R. West, will be coming to Season 2 and join Barry Allen, played by Grant Gustin, in his quest to defeat the bad guys. Everyone who is familiar with the show knows that Allen is “The Flash,” while West is known among DC Comics enthusiasts as the “Kid Flash.”
A familiar sidekick
Wally West is the man most associated with “The Flash” title for an entire generation. Defined by his quick wit and mischievous nature, he began his superhero career as “Kid Flash,” the sidekick to the silver age “The Flash” played by police scientist Barry Allen, details Screen Rant.
After hassling his Aunt Iris West for a chance to spend time with Barry and a tour of his forensics lab, the visit went haywire again after another lightning bolt strikes the same rack of chemicals and sprinkled Wally with it, which is exactly what happened to Barry.
As a result, Barry became an instant mentor, offering Wally academic advice just as Jay Garrick, who was the first Flash, had been a father figure to Barry.
But Wally was destined for much more than a supporting role to The Flash, which is what the TV series will focus on come Season 2.
Producer Greg Berlanti has stated that the showrunners have worked with DC while Wally’s new origin was being developed and that they made the decision to cast their own West family with African-American actors.
It is expected that “The Flash” TV series will eventually head in the direction that DC Comics had for Wally West going forward, and that was the gist of Berlanti’s words.
Season 1 cliffhanger
The first season of “The Flash” ended in a cliffhanger with the massive swirling singularity in the sky above Central City, so the emergence of Wally and the “Kid Flash” could really be significant.
In addition to the arrival of Wally in Season 2, the writers of “The Flash” have also disclosed a couple of other crucial details including the likely appearance of the original Flash, Jay Garrick, played by Teddy Sears, new powers coming for Barry Allen, and Cisco Ramon all set to uncover more of his own abilities gifted by the S.T.A.R. Labs disaster.
According to Comicbook, Barry Allen will travel to the eerily familiar Earth early on in Season 2. This was actually confirmed by executive producer Andrew Kreisberg who said that viewers will be able to get a taste of Earth 2 much sooner than expected.
Just as The Flash had a fun-but-nuanced take on time travel on Season 1, Kreisberg ensured that the same would happen for Season 2’s take on the parallel Earth.
“The Flash” is a spin-off from “Arrow,” existing in the same fictional universe. The TV series follows Barry Allen, who is a crime investigator who gains superhuman speed, which he uses to fight criminals, including others who have also gained superhuman abilities.
