The 22nd and penultimate episode of Season 2 of the American superhero drama TV series “The Flash” shall be airing on The CW on May 17. But Kevin Smith, who directed the recently-aired episode 21 of the show, said that the season finale of “The Flash” is going to be both insanely strong and gloriously bold.
Smith said that fans of the hit TV series are in for one of the biggest surprises yet, without giving any specific at all.
After directing the 21st episode of “The Flash” entitled “The Runaway Dinosaur” that offered one of the biggest doses of mythology-building to date, Smith got wind of information regarding how the executive producers and the writers are going to end Season 2.
He disclosed that he got the breakdown of what the last two episodes are. He said that it shall include Teddy Sears in a big, bad way.
He also described the finale as kind of mad as well as crazy. “The Flash” is one of those TV series that really ends big, which it showed during its Season 1 finale that saw Jay Garrick’s hat coming through at the end.
Smith is also a pure fan of “The Flash” and that is why he is also excited with the two remaining episodes of the TV series following the episode that he directed.
He also lauded the writers of the show for having enough balls in the air and have them all start landing with impact, details Screen Rant.
The director also said that the Season 2 finale of “The Flash” is actually good for a TV series already on its fifth season so he expressed his admiration to the writers of the show for making the storyline on “The Flash” so glorious. He lauded the writers for their bold and creative writing choices and the Season 2 finale, to be aired on May 24, is absolutely one of the boldest yet.
Mother and son moment
Episode 21 of “The Flash” showed Barry being sent into the Speed Force itself, where he saw visions of his loved ones and shared a moment with his mother, finally.
It is definitely one of the most touching moments between the two since Barry’s tearful phone call to Earth 2’s version of his mom several episodes back.
The mother and son duo read a child’s book together about a dinosaur and its mother, which is the reason why the title of the episode is called “The Runaway Dinosaur,” details Forbes.
Barry broke into the Speed Force to become the Speedster that he is meant to become. It was also through the same experience that he magically got his speed back after facing off with his past demons.
Meanwhile, in the real world, a zombified Tony has emerged to talk to Iris and Team Flash in an attempt to bring Barry back from the nexus before the monster comes back to crush them.
Cisco managed to vibe Barry’s location even as Harry Wells was able to put together a machine that allows Cisco to go into the Speed Force and retrieve Barry in the process.
There were initial skepticisms on Barry to go into the Speed Force but he eventually relented.
The episode is a great one and also features some of the finest dramatic moments of the TV series in the current second season. But viewers need not be too focus on the details because “The Flash” is a fictional TV series and they would surely enjoy it without asking too many questions and simply suspending their disbeliefs.
It was a good and heart-warming episode, emotionally charged romp with some reasonably decent action. There is nothing mind-blowing in the episode but it’s not bad at all and credit goes to the excellent direction of Kevin Smith, who can only wish to be given another directorial stint in the TV series in the future.
The looming showdown
“The Flash” still has two episodes to go before its Season 2 finale slated to air on May 24 but actor Teddy Sears has already hinted of the looming showdown between Zoom and the Scarlet Speedster.
