Even after another absence in the recently concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016, the rumors about the role-playing game “The Elder Scrolls 6” continue to make it to the internet, which only indicate how popular and widely anticipated the video game is.
One thing is clear at this point is that “The Elder Scrolls 6” is now under development and the confirmation came no less from franchise director Todd Howard.
There have been reports that the next “The Elder Scrolls” game shall be a sequel to the fifth installment of the series called as “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim,” thus the rumors of the next game being called as “The Elder Scrolls 6: Skyrim 2.”
However, there are also reports saying that it would be called “Argonia” because it is to be set in such location which the previous installments of the video game series had yet to fully explore.
Lately, there are now rumors saying that it is possible that game developer Bethesda Studios may opt to reboot the storyline completely and most gamers would still not mind, reports Gaming Bolt.
The source of the reboot speculations
The speculations about the reboot of the franchise emanated from last year’s online multiplayer game release of Bethesda titled “The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited” where the developer introduced the new province of Tamriel.
According to critics, the developer’s hands are getting increasingly tied with each new game and Bethesda is also running out of provinces to make games on while maintaining continuity, notes the Gaming Bolt.
Most gamers and critics believe that even if “The Elder Scrolls 6” makes a full and total reboot of the storyline and completely deviate from the series’ narrative, they would certainly not mind because the important thing is the gameplay.
However, some critics opine that if Bethesda is going to reboot the franchise, then it might as well call it a new game instead of naming it as “The Elder Scrolls 6” because the numerical figure at the end denotes continuity.
Will not happen anytime soon
Incidentally, it was during last week’s E3 2016 that Todd Howard decided to reveal in an interview that his team is now working on “The Elder Scrolls 6.”
Howard also disclosed that Bethesda is working on two other large projects at the moment so the development on “The Elder Scrolls 6” is not getting much attention compared to the two, which are expected to launch first, details Neurogadget.
The game director said that “The Elder Scrolls 6” is still a very long way to go. He added that they will be focusing on the game’s quality and would surely not rush anything even if it means releasing the game at a far later date.
Howard did not give any information about the two big projects that Bethesda Studios is now working on but he said that both are bigger than anything they have done in the past.
Fans of “The Elder Scrolls 6” got disappointed when reports came out in April saying that the game would not be launched at the E3 2016.
After game developer Bethesda Studios kept “The Elder Scrolls 6” from the limelight at the E3 2015, gamers were expecting to finally see the game being unraveled in this year’s event.
It could be recalled that one Bethesda official was actually quoted as saying during the E3 2015 that “The Elder Scrolls 6” shall have the E3 2016 all to itself as far as Bethesda is concerned since the game developer launched at least four games in last year’s event, highlighted by the post-apocalyptic role-playing game “Fallout 4.”
According to the latest rumors, “The Elder Scrolls 6” shall most likely come out next year and that the game shall have the same settlement setting as the April DLC of “Fallout 4” known as “Wasteland Workshop.” It seems that the rumors on the game’s release date are not true after all.
