While many of the loyal fans of the American comedy-drama TV series “Hart of Dixie” are still hoping for a fifth season to their favorite show, The CW network has doused cold water on their aspirations by officially cancelling Season 5 early this week.
Even before “Hart of Dixie” Season 4 aired its final episode on March 27, show creator Leila Gerstein already hinted of the possibility of the series not returning for its fifth season.
She admitted back then that if Season 4 was to be the last one for “Hart of Dixie,” the series surely had an amazing finale, notes Venture Capital Post.
There have also been reports that the decision of show lead star Rachel Bilson not to return for the possible fifth season of the series to spend more quality time with her newly-born baby daughter Briar Rose with long-time boyfriend Hayden Christensen, made it easier for The CW not to renew “Hart of Dixie” for another season.
Co-star Jamie King confirmed later that Rachel did went on a vacation with loved ones, which only heightened the fear of fans that “Hart of Dixie” would no longer have a fifth season.
Another early hint that the show would no longer be renewed for another season is when actors and actresses of the series started saying their goodbyes and thanks to the network, the show, and their fellow actors via their respective Twitter accounts. Actors Wilson Bethel and Scott Porter were actually the first cast members to bid their goodbyes right after completing the shooting of the last episode of the show.
Happy ending nonetheless
Despite not having the fifth season, the series finale of “Hart of Dixie” for Season 4 was not bat at all since everyone in Bluebell had a happy ending.
Zoe and Wade got married, and so were Lemon and Lavon. George and AnnaBeth pursue their relationship for good. So every major cast member of the show had their resolution so even if Season 5 was written off, “Hart of Dixe” still had the fitting ending that it deserves.
The only ones that were not happy were naturally the fans who felt that a Season 5 should still be forthcoming. But eventually, they would start moving on from their disappointment.
Ratings are not the issue
In a recent interview before the official cancellation of the Season 5 of “Hart of Dixie,” show regular Jamie King disclosed that in the event that The CW network does not renew “Hart of Dixie” for Season 5, it is not because the show was not doing good in terms of ratings because it actually fares reasonably well.
She said that the likely reason that the show will be discontinued is because lead actress Rachel Bilson has already signified her intention even during the fourth season of the show that she wants to be a full-time mother and spend more time with her baby daughter.
I hate to see a fairly decent show cancel, there’s SO much trash out there —cop shows galore, horror and gory show galore, but not a REAL variety. Where are shows like: western-types, intelligent science fiction, “clean” comedies (like Everybody likes Raymond), family shows that aren’t so FAR left – I mean the rest of the country does NOT look at the world, nor have families like Hollywood and L.A. does – geez – we are far more normal than that!
I so agree about all the crap that is on TV like cop shows ect. I miss shows like Heart of Dixie, I think we need more shows like that. I for one am sick of seeing COP shows, and HORROR shows. Somebody PLEASE think of something different !!
What a fantastic TV show! This is a show that will be missed not just because we enjoy the plot and can’t wait to see what happens next, but more so because we love our friends in Bluebell. The characters are set at a perfect age, in such circumstances, that young and old alike can relate even when the fast paced plot is zany and over the top. Our “friends” have all gone through trials and tribulations we understand, their emotions raw and real, even if at times they appear in serious need of real counseling. But yet they all get their feet on the ground over time. Who didn’t have a tear in their eye as season 4 wrapped up knowing we too were moving away from Bluebell permanently?
This is crap they can do the show without her she was not the reason I watched I actually didn’t care for her that much it’s easy to write her out and later she might want to come back
I loved this show !!! It was so fun to watch ! Several I our community watched it faithfully and we had a great time remamishing about it!!!
Noooo don’t go …. bring bluebell back :(
I’ve watched the reruns on Neflix. I miss Heart of Dixie so much. Please bring it back.
