Ever since the beginning of “The Blacklist”, fans of the show have been wondering about the presence of Red in the story, and his possible connection to Liz. One of the main theories in the community is that the two are actually father and daughter, something which seems to be supported by various details of the plot at times.
And yet, we haven’t seen an official confirmation yet. Rumors indicate that the current fourth season could finally give some answers to that mystery, possibly in connection to the story with Kirk.
Some fans suspect that Red won’t actually turn out to be Liz’s father, and that he’s really Kirk. That could make Red want to get rid of him, and he is currently in a position to do so. However, even if there is a deeper connection between Liz and Kirk, this doesn’t mean that Red will want to get rid of him. The situation is a bit messy, but it’s definitely been of huge interest to many fans of the production.
In any case, whether Kirk really is Liz’s father or not, we will at least get some answers on the connection between her and Red if the rumors turn out to be true. It’s possible that there is something entirely different going on between the two characters that fans don’t even suspect, and that would fit perfectly with the style of the showrunners until now.
In fact, that could be the only logical answer right now, given how much time has passed since the theory about Liz and Red came up. It would be too obvious now, and revealing such a connection between the two characters will not have a strong impact on fans anymore.
That gives the producers the perfect opportunity to do something completely different between the two though, so it will be interesting to see if they’ve prepared a surprise for their fans. As we said above, it would make sense with regards to the show’s overall style.
It could also be the kind of fresh development “The Blacklist” needs in order to survive right now, as the show has been doing a bit poorly in the ratings department lately, and could definitely use a boost. It started off strongly, with fans enjoying the first season quite a lot. Things went downhill after that though, and even though there are still lots of active viewers, it’s not quite the same as when the show started.
With that in mind, the showrunners could definitely have a nice opportunity to introduce a sudden twist in the story by pulling the rug under their viewers with regards to Red and Liz. However, what kind of story could they tell about the two characters that will still make sense after everything we’ve seen?
Some fans suggest that there could still be a blood connection between them, but it’s not a father-daughter one. However, that could be a bit of a cheap way to conclude the subplot, and the producers should realize that.
They have also promised that fans will get some answers by the end of this season, so they seem committed to the idea of developing this part of the story properly. Hopefully this won’t turn out to be a lot of hype over nothing, as that would definitely send the show on its way out soon. As we said above, “The Blacklist” has been on thin ice lately, so the producers have to be extra careful with how they’re handling things right now.
