As expected, the fourth season of the American crime drama TV series “The Blacklist” on NBC went off to a rousing start on September 22, picking up from the Season 3 finale.
The very much alive Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Keen, played by Megan Boone, finds herself in a predicament where her child, Agnes, is missing, and she is also at the mercy of her kidnapper, Alexander Kirk, played by Ulrich Thomsen, who also claims to be her biological father.
Because of the manner how she was taken, Liz appears determined that she is not to trust Kirk since no father in his right mind would hire killers to destroy his daughter’s wedding and force her out, details Yibada.
Liz believes that Kirk also holds her daughter hostage but she wanted to make the most out of Kirk for information that Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington, played by James Spader, failed to share with her in the past.

Typical with “The Blacklist,” the momentum of the premiere episode will carry through the second episode to air on September 29.
Entitled “Mato,” it would feature Red seeking the help of Tom, played by Ryan Eggold, and the FBI task force to track down a bounty hunter whom he believes knows the whereabouts of Alexander Kirk. He also thinks that once they get to Kirk, they would also find Liz and her daughter, Agnes.
Red is confident that the mysterious assassin is privy to Alexander Kirk’s next move.
Starting to trust Kirk
While at the outset Liz would not trust Kirk, once he starts revealing key information that was not shared with her by Red in the past, she would begin to trust her supposed biological father.
It was showrunner Jon Bokenkamp who made the disclosure by saying that such plotline is one of the biggest reveals of “The Blacklist” Season 4.
The biggest question among fans would be is the real relationship of Red and Liz and whether Kirk would have the answer to it.
It could be recalled that the ‘death’ of Liz in Season 3 helped viewers gained a deeper insight on Red’s back story and the extent of his feelings for the former FBI profiler. Bonkenkamp also confirmed that Season 4 will also explore the perspective of who Red really is to Liz.
Worth the wait
With the way that “The Blacklist” Season 4 started off again with a bang, it was certainly worth the wait of the fans, notes the Parent Herald.
In the Season 4 premiere, Alexander Kirk revealed to Liz that he is Constantin Rostova, the husband of Katarina Rostova, the mother of Liz.
He said that Red and Katarina had an affair and Red initially thought that he was the father of Katarina’s child. However, Kirk said that the real father of the child, who turned out to be Liz, is him and Red just kidnapped her when she was a child to avenge losing Katarina back to her husband.
It can be recalled that during the early seasons of “The Blacklist,” it was mentioned that Liz was indeed entrusted by Red to a friend to take care of, whom she considers her father.
Kirk is also hoping that Liz will understand his ways because his only goal is to get her away from Red who had been fooling her for so long.
Despite the revelations of Kirk in the Season 4 premiere of “The Blacklist,” many fans still believe that Red is the real father of Liz and the reason why he took Liz away is to to save her from Fitch and the KGB who wants her, Red and Katarina dead, perhaps on the order of Kirk even.
However, all these are mere fan speculations and should be taken with a fine grain of salt. But fans need not wait long for answers because Season 4 of “The Blacklist” is already airing on NBC and they are bound to have their weekly dose of fun and excitement the way that the show has successfully given them in the past three seasons.
Meanwhile, critics are pushing for an award on the creative team of “The Blacklist” for ingeniously incorporating Megan Boone’s real-life pregnancy and spinning it into a jaw-dropping series of twists during a surprisingly intense and moving back end of Season 3.
In a recent interview, Jon Bokenkamp said that the shape of the show has shifted because of Liz Keen going missing in action and in the custody of her rumored father Alexander Kirk during the Season 3 finale.
Prior to the Season 4 premiere of “The Blacklist,” there were speculations saying that Megan Boone might not be around much because of her recent pregnancy and eventual baby delivery. But the actress said that she is comfortable filming for Season 4 of the TV series and promised that the production staff would not hear any kind of complaints from her.
However, realistically, it would take some time before Red and Liz start working together again as a well-oiled FBI investigating machine given the level of betrayal that Liz did to Red during the latter part of Season 3.
Some are saying that it will be a beat or two before the two of them get to bounce their anger off each other and it is likely that Red is going to have a lot of say about it.
