There about two months left to go until “The Blacklist” returns for its season 3 on NBC, and while we didn’t know much about the storyline of the new season until now, the title of the first episode was allegedly leaked recently, giving fans some hints about what they can expect to see in the episode. It will be titled “The Troll Farmer”, and will see Raymond Reddington and agent Elizabeth Keen possibly reuniting in order to find a new blacklist criminal.
In the finale for season 2, we saw Elizabeth Keen running away from the FBI, together with Reddington, after the FBI turned against them. This wasn’t the first time Reddington has been on the run from the law, apparently, and he uses his contacts to get help for himself and for Liz, and ensure both of their safety.
So far throughout the show, the pair of characters have come in contact with at least one “Blacklister” per episode, and it doesn’t look like this trend is going to change for the premiere of season 3. The name of the episode apparently refers to the villain himself, who the two will have to come up against, though we have no idea what will be special about him.
Some fans of the show – as well as critics – have been trying to guess what the new season could be about, and what plot lines it might figure. Among the different possibilities are Red and Keen being shown as fugitives and the story focusing on that to a large extent. Of course, we’ve already seen a hint that their run from the FBI will go on for a while, but it might play a more important role in the new season, adding a lot to the plot.
There may also be some interesting new dynamics between the characters. Overall, the lineup of characters themselves will stay more or less the same, but the ways they interact are going to see some interesting new differences, according to the hints we’ve seen so far.
This came from Megan Boone, who plays the role of Liz on the show. According to her, there will be some noticeable changes in the character dynamics in season 3, and we’re curious to see what that might mean.
Some of that could be related to the break-up inside the task force, as now the show’s writers have a challenge in trying to continue the plot in a way that feels natural. This is the kind of show that needs to stick to some semi-rigid formula in order to stay relevant and successful, and even though it’s good to see it exploring new horizons for its plot, the producers should remember what drove fans to it in the first place.
Then, we might also see a noticeable change in the character of Elizabeth Keen, who, according to rumors, could be made tougher and more serious. This will come as a result of the events in season 2, which have made her question some things around her, and have “blurred the line of good and bad” for the character.
We don’t know what implications this might have for the other characters of the show – as we said above, we’ve already been promised a change in dynamics there – but we hope that there won’t be any changes that fans are going to see as negative, as it definitely does sound like the story could take a darker turn in certain ways.

In Season 2, when Keen shot the A.G., she had flashbacks of a man beating a woman and she killed him. Later on, it was revealed that both man and wife were deep plant KGB moles and some terrible confession/confrontation set the man off against the wife. What was left out was there was a fire and how it started. We know Reddington was burnt in that fire and rescued the girl. My surmise is that Reddington compromised the KGB operation by impregnating the KBG wife and she bore him a daughter Keen, his illegitimate daughter and he was burned rescuing her while burning down the house.
