The Blacklist Season 3 to Focus on the True Relationship of Liz and Red!

The first two seasons of the American crime drama TV series “The Blacklist” lead viewers to various theories regarding the relationship between FBI profiler Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Keen, played by Megan Boone, and crime consultant Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington, played by James Spader.

While some opine that the relationship may be of the romantic kind, but given their age difference, many believe that Red may actually be the father of Liz, which is the reason why he has considered her very special right from the start.

Red also agreed to cooperate with the FBI and provide information about his blacklist of criminal masterminds on the condition that he works only with Liz and no other else.

There has not been any major headway as far as the mystery of the true and real relationship between Red and Liz but the upcoming third season of the popular TV show will finally explore that particular plotline, reveals the International Business Times of India.

On the run

It can be recalled that during the Season 2 finale, Liz shot dead Attorney General Tom Connolly, played by Reed Birney, after discovering that he is a member of the criminal organization known as The Cabal.

Just before shooting the government official, Liz also learned that she was the one who killed her father when she was still young.

That premise would most likely be explored further in Season 3 as it practically erased the belief that Red is the father of Liz. Some fans believe that the show will come up with another twist to show that the person whom Liz killed when she was still a little girl was not her father but someone else whom she thought as her father.

It was also in Season 2 that viewers found out that Liz was previously Masha Rostova, but her connection with Red is still a mystery. Her mother, who is an ex-KGB agent Katarina Rostova, will apparently have a leading role as the narrative unfolds in Season 3 and she will be the link who shall unveil the truth about the real relationship of Red and Liz.

Showrunner Jon Bonkenkamp explained that Liz has a deep criminal instinct that she has been resisting for so long and it is now showing as she becomes the hunted. Accordingly, her survival will depend on determining who she really is and what her past holds for her.

It is also likely that the FBI will send out Ressler, played by Diego Klattenhoff, to do the manhunt on Red and Liz. Given his gung-ho approach, Ressler will most likely go to great lengths just to catch the two fugitives, even if it means putting others in danger.

Confusing kind of love

The premiere episode of Season 3 of “The Blacklist” is titled “The Troll Hunter” and will be shown on NBC on October 1.

It will show what happens to Liz and Red as they become fugitives and on the run from the law. The two will apparently seek help from people whom they were previously putting behind bars.

It is actually right in the first episode of Season 3 when the show will explore the real relationship between Liz and Red.

In a recent interview, Megan Boone was quoted as saying that she thinks fans of the TV series already know how much Red loves Liz, but it is a confusing kind of love. She added that it will have to be answered because no matter how one loves someone that deeply or under what mysterious circumstances may it be, it has to be known eventually.

The Blacklist - Season 1

Boone also explained that she thinks Liz also loves Red, but it’s not on a romantic level. She also believes that the relationship between Red and Liz is not of the romantic kind despite many of the show’s fans assuming that it is.

The third season of “The Blacklist” will also see the return of Liz’s husband Tom Keen, played by Ryan Eggold, who will definitely be shocked to know that his wife has become a fugitive.
