The midseason premiere of Season 3 of the American crime drama TV series “The Blacklist” on NBC went off to a rousing start for the New Year with a two-part episode titled “The Director” beginning with episode 9 that was aired on January 7.
Episode 9 saw Aram, played by Amir Arison, holding off the Director and saving the life of Elizabeth Keen, played by Megan Boone.
The episode was Aram’s big moment as he changed the code to Liz’s holding cell and also pulled a gun on the Director, played by David Strathaim, and held them off. Aram’s brave act was recognized by Red who told him that what prevented him from watching his friend die was not a sign of weakness but hope. Red also told Aram that he shall forever be indebted to him.
The ninth episode also saw Ressler, played by Diego Klattenhoff, and Tom Keen, played by Ryan Eggold, putting aside their differences and working together to protect Karakurt, played by Andrew Divoff.
In so doing, they also made it possible for Cooper, played by Harry Lennix, to capture Mr. Solomon, played by Edi Gathegi. Still, amid all the efforts of Ressler and Tom, there is still no guarantee on the safety of Liz.
Red’s final push
It shall be up to Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington, played by James Spader, to gather together his allies in the FBI and outside to make their final push to get Liz out of the trouble she is into, especially with the fact that The Cabal wants her dead, details the Ecumenical News.
The second part of the midseason premiere will take place on episode 10 to air on January 14 on NBC and will pick up after the events of episode 9.
The trailer for the upcoming episode shows Ressler escorting Liz to the court amidst tight security.
Apparently, The Cabal prepares to assassinate Liza so Red calls upon the task force to combine their efforts to outmaneuver the criminal organization to exonerate the former FBI profiler. The synopsis also said that Red will deliver the final ultimatum, details the International Business Times of UK.
The trailer of episode 10 officially titled ‘The Director: Conclusion’ also shows Red explaining to his team comprised of Samar, played by Mozhan Marno, Marvin Gerard, played by Fisher Stevens, Mr. Kaplan, played by Susan Blommaert, and other associates, that in order to save Liz, they must execute a specific attack.
A resolution in the offing
The teaser for the upcoming episode also showed Cooper and Aram, with the latter carefully cutting wires in a device. A door number is changed from eight to six, which means that there will be some kind of switching that will be happening.
Red Dembe, played by Hisham Tawfiq, and Tom are seen arriving as Liz tells Ressler that The Cabal is going to kill her today. The trailer ends with a US Marshall pointing a gun, followed by Ressler shouting and pulling Liz down.
Showrunner Jon Bokenkamp confirmed that there will be a resolution of sorts in episode 10 of “The Blacklist.” However, he also added that there is still a lot of stories to try to button up so fans and viewers of the show should expect to see more storylines that might involve Laurel, Mr. Solomon, or even the fallout from Liz and what she has done.
Bokenkamp also said that there are a few rules that they are afraid of breaking in “The Blacklist.” He added that Alan Alda is somebody whom they love to be on the show and it just broke his heart that they blew him up in the box.
However, he said that it felt that it was the right thing to do as to where the story had to go but they are certainly not afraid of taking some really big swings in “The Blacklist.”
