The second episode of Season 9 of the long-running American TV sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” aired on CBS on September 28 and it actually began by bursting the bubble of Leonard’s dream of him and Penny having a steamy bedroom scene.
Although they were already married in Las Vegas during the Season 8 finale, the Season 9 premiere showed Penny having her second thoughts about their marriage because Leonard kissed a co-worker two years ago during his expedition in the North Sea.
During the second episode, Penny decided to confront the woman, Mandy Chow, whom Leonard kissed and realized that Leonard was just insecure about their relationship, notes the International Business Times.
On the part of Leonard, he was in a quagmire on how to deal with it, even soliciting the help of his friend Sheldon to help him figure out on how to go and save his marriage.
Of course, the suggestions of Sheldon bordered on the absurd, funny, and whimsical even citing at one point that it was okay for Leonard to kiss a woman way back than kissing a man.
But it was also Sheldon who told him the bright idea of introducing Mandy to Penny so the latter would really know that there is nothing that lingers between Mandy and Leonard anymore. But Leonard shunned the idea, proposing instead to marriage counselling.
Still he decided to talk to Mandy who suggested to him to tell Penny the reason for the boozy bussing which led him to think that he might not even be the right guy for his wife.
Eventually, Mandy and Penny met and there was an exchange of apologies, which Leonard topped off with that statement ‘I’ve loved you since the moment we met and I will keep loving you until the end of time,’ which surely melted Penny’s heart.
Leonard even asked his wife to stay married to him. On that note, Penny and Leonard head off to the bedroom to consummate and make their marriage official, details Vulture.
More time together
While Leonard and Penny’s relationship has been resolved early on in Season 9, it seems like the same cannot be said of the faltering affair of Sheldon and Amy.
During their breakup on the Season 8 finale, Amy told Sheldon that she wants space and time to think about their relationship. However, instead of giving Amy what he wants, Sheldon resorts to keeping in constant touch with her by returning some of her things, which she finds quite annoying.
Sheldon obviously wants to reunite with Amy but he is trying a bit too hard to make it happen. So he keeps on contacting Amy, showing up at her door to return boxes of her possessions and some lingerie that are not really Amy’s in the hope of making her feel jealous.
Amy was actually right on cue when she said that she talked to Sheldon more in the two days since they broke up than the last two months that they have been together, indicating that Sheldon was not giving her the attention when they were still a couple but is doing it now that they have broken up.
Reuniting again
Though by the looks of it, Amy still has feelings for Sheldon and it is likely that they will be reuniting in the next few episodes of “The Big Bang Theory” Season 9.
A good number of fans of Sheldon and Amy have been speculating before the Season 9 premiere that the pair would reunite again in Season 9.
It was actually show writer Eric Kaplan who confirmed the focus on Amy’s backstory, revealing that fans may eventually find out that Amy had a great, great uncle who didn’t play by the rules.
