After all, the love story between them has been a major element of the plot so far, and it would be very disappointing to see that falling apart just for the sake of making the show more dramatic. It would also turn many fans away from the show, judging from responses on the Internet.
Fans of “The Big Bang Theory” seem quite split about the whole breakup situation with the two characters. Many were expecting the relationship to grow even stronger with time, and some were even speculating that the two might tie the knot even sooner than Leonard and Penny.
And yet, the writers chose to make this dramatic detour to the story that struck many fans as a huge surprise and came completely out of the blue. Others claim that they were actually expecting something like that, but they seem to be in a minority from what we can tell.
Hopefully the reunion of the two characters will come sooner rather than later, so fans can enjoy a more lighthearted, happy set of episodes throughout season 9. It would certainly be good to see the show returning to its roots in this regard and exploring the comedic side of its plot in more detail. Good old nerdy humor has been somewhat lacking throughout season 8, and it’s about time to bring it back.
