The 10th episode of “The Americans,” entitled “The Munchkins,” will see a pregnant wife of Kelly AuCoin’s Pastor Tim telling Matthey Rhys’ Philip and Keri Russel’s Elizabeth that his husband has gone missing in Ethiopia.
Tim’s wife threatens the Jennings family that if the pastor doesn’t come home safely, she will release a tape she made to the Justice Department that reveals their KGB secret.
In the last episode, Pastor Tim promised the Jennings family that when he gets back from his trip from Ethiopia, he will sit down with them to discuss their situation. The pastor believes that Paige is being adversely affected by her parents’ secret profession.
Fans know that Philip and Elizabeth are soviet KGB officers posing as an American married couple with their children Paige and Henry.
Holly Taylor’s Paige grills her parents since, back in the early mid-80s, Russia had no significant control in Ethiopia nor a military presence.
Elizabeth goes to Frank Langella’s Gabriel who tells her that the hard part is already done, but it looks like he’s talking about another situation.
Fans will know that Elizabeth once fake slept with the husband of Ruthie Miles’ Young Hee. Because of it, she gained access to Level 4 at the lab so Dylan Baker’s William can get hold of the Lassa virus for Directorate S.
Elizabeth and Don never actually slept together although she made him believe that they did which devastated him because he believes he cheated on Young Hee.
Elizabeth was also hurting because if not for her duty, she will not fracture Don and Young’s marriage especially since she has really come to like Young as a friend.
Apparently, it looks like Gabriel was talking about Young Hee finding out about Elizabeth and her husband.
The teaser for the episode shows the couple juggling everything with Tim, his pregnant wife, the tape telling the awful truth, and the ever-doubtful Paige.
One scene shows Elizabeth telling her daughter that they may have to leave America. Paige doesn’t catch up initially to her mother, but she clearly meant fleeing back to Mother Russia.
The pastor’s wife is also seen confiding to Elizabeth that she’s really scared and worried for her husband. She’s afraid for her child to grow up without a father.
The teaser also gives fans a glimpse of Pastor Tim, who looks healthy enough but is held captive. Rumors say that the Directorate took Tim to try and scare some sense into him.
There are only three episodes left before the fourth season of “The Americans” concludes. FX network still hasn’t made Season 5 official, but reports say that writers have already convened in the writer’s room for Season 5’s storyline.
If renewed for another season, Season 5 will possibly consist of 13 episodes as well following previous seasons.
During the last episode, Paige suggested that she and her dad join a church event so Pastor Tim will think they’re normal.
The Munchkins were also introduced by Noah Emmerich’s Stan. The FBI agent reveals that the Munchkins, one of his new boss are cracking down on discipline and intolerance of any lateness and sloppiness.
Elizabeth also took advantage of an absence in Young Hee’s household. Her mother-in-law flew to Korea, and Elizabeth volunteers to babysit. This earned her access to Don’s things.
Don still works at the same bio-weapons lab as William but has higher clearance and Elizabeth couldn’t fully access the lab without a code or a card key.
Elsewhere, William has alerted them that the Lassa virus is the worst thing he’s ever seen. He describes it as Ebola-like, liquefying organs, and causing blood to seep through the skin.
