‘The Americans’ Season 4 All Set to Remarkably Relive the Cold War and Put its Characters on the Path of Destruction!

It’s all systems go for Season 4 of the American espionage period drama TV series “The Americans” on FX beginning on March 16.

While the Cold War is over and done with in real-life, in the TV series, it is still an unthinkable act of history waiting to happen, thus keeping the suspense in the show at an all-time high.

Critics are all praises for “The Americans” not only because it is one of the best TV shows today, but because of how it is remarkably reliving the Cold War while putting its characters on the path of great destruction, notes Deadline.

Season 4 of “The Americans” shall feature 13 episodes that shall highlight the Ronald Reagan-era US as its main setting with Joe Weisberg as the showrunner.

The show is about Soviet spies Philip and Elizabeth Jennings, played by real-life couple Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell, respectively.

The two are starting to buckle under the strain of their clandestine and increasingly risky work and their fractured family life.

The couple pretends to be an all-American family gathering information for the Soviet Union while raising two kids and living next to an unsuspecting FBI Agent Stan Beeman, played by Noah Emmerich.

Interestingly, Keri Russell is now pregnant with her first child with Matthew and there have been speculations that it could affect the production as well as the storylines of Season 4 of “The Americans.”

Both actors assured that Russell’s pregnancy would not affect the storylines of “The Americans” because the couple really planned the pregnancy and the baby to come at a time during their break from the production of the TV series.

Bringing the daughter on the scheme

During the Season 3 finale, Philip and Elizabeth are in a quandary on whether to let in their already suspecting daughter Paige, played by Holly Taylor, to the scheme of things in the household.

Based on recent reports, it seems that Paige will be made aware of the goings-on in the Jennings household and she will be reacting in a different way.

According to some critics, Paige is the soul of the show under the weekly wreckage of lives, loves, ideology, trusts, and con games that spin around the very captivating series.

Season 4 shall also deal with the fallout from the supposedly suburban all-American nuclear family as some are starting to get closer and closer to the Jennings’ son Henry, and finding out who has penetrated the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The Collider also reports that the fourth season of “The Americans” shall also see the Soviet spy couple getting a new assignment from the Russian higher-ups and it shall involve bioweapons, thereby assuring fans of more exciting times and suspense for the show in practically all of its 13 episodes for Season 4.

A least-watched TV show

“The Americans” is highly regarded by critics as one of the best shows on TV these days but unfortunately, it is also one of the least watched series on the small screen.

Some even allude to “The Americans” as the next “Breaking Bad” TV series, pun unintended of course to the latter’s equally excellent spinoff prequel “Better Call Saul,” which is now in its second season on AMC.

Since premiering on 2013, “The Americans” has been really excellent in terms of storylines, cast, acting, and overall production and it is just unfortunate that its rating is not that excellent, which means that the FX network needs to do a better job in promoting the show.

Critics regard “The Americans” as one of the few shows on cable television that are not afraid to push boundaries given its brutal violence and heated sex exchange, but portrayed with the utmost class and character. But it is also a family drama that has one of the most adult offerings airing on the small screen.
