We already got a confirmation a while ago that “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” is not happening, as the film has been cancelled. And while this disappointed some fans of the franchise, others seem to think that this is for the better, basing their opinion on the performance of the second installment. The second film in this series was not met very positively by fans nor critics, so some were afraid that “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” would make a similarly bad impression and further erode the brand name.
It’s highly possible that we’ll get another “Spider-Man” movie at some point in the future though, as there have been various talks about the production coming up. Kevin Feige has personally talked about the possibility on a few occasions, and from what we can tell, the new film is going to try and focus on a specific side of the character that hasn’t been explored so much previously.
In particular, it’s going to portray the more sarcastic, comical Spider-Man we know from the comic books, where he used to beat up the bad guys while making witty remarks about his current situation, and loved to make fun of his opponents. Marvel seem to have noticed that this aspect of the character has been left mostly unexplored so far in the movies about him, and they’re going to try to change that.
The next film will be similar to “Batman Begins”, from what we can tell, but it’s not guaranteed to be an origin story. While we will get to see a younger version of the character, he’ll already have obtained his powers and his suit, so we won’t actually see him from the moment he becomes a superhero.
Still, the new film is likely going to focus to a large extent on Spider-Man’s ability to deal with his life as a teenager, balancing his powers around his personal life and school, and this could show a more personal side of the character that we haven’t seen until now. We’re still not clear on who’s going to portray the character in the new film, but there have been rumors about various actors. Miles Morales is the most prominent candidate right now, but of course we’re going to have to wait for Marvel to let us in on the situation before we know for sure.
In any case, the return of Spider-Man to the big screen could breathe some fresh life into the franchise, but it could also spell disaster if it’s not handled properly. Fans are already approaching this carefully and there is some skepticism about the production, making it important for Marvel to give it their best effort.
