Amid the less-than-expected performance of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” in the box office last year, Sony Pictures has reportedly made a casting call for the pre-production and filming of “The Amazing Spider-Man 3.”
“The Amazing Spider-Man” is the 2012 reboot of the Spider-Man movie series starring Toby Mcguire that was shown from 2002 to 2007. The new movie franchise stars Andrew Garfield for the lead role of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man.
With $709 million box-office haul, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” did not do badly at the tills actually. It was a box-office success by any standards. But if compared to the box-office take of “The Amazing Spider-Man,” which got $758 million in 2012, that would have been a downer particularly for the producers.
That is why, there were rumors flying around that producers at Sony Pictures have been reportedly looking to replace Andrew Garfield for the lead role in the next film of the rebooted franchise.
There were even reports that Marvel Studios was planning to take over the franchise from Sony Pictures to do a complete makeover of ‘your friendly neighborhood’ superhero.
Proceeding with the third film
But a report of Breathecast says that Sony Pictures appears to be not done yet with “The Amazing Spider-Man” franchise and is in fact already doing pre-production works for “The Amazing Spider-Man 3.”
Consistent with the rumors that a third movie is indeed in the works, Sony Pictures allegedly made a casting call for “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” which also ended up online. The rumored casting call appeared on Bill Beckman Casting, which stated that Sony Pictures was looking for movie extras between the ages of 18 to 65 years old to appear in “The Amazing Spider-Man 3.”
The same casting call that was posted on Bill Beckman Casting hinted of the storyline for the third movie in “The Amazing Spider-Man” franchise with a teaser that said Peter Parker / Spider-Man will be facing a new challenge to protect New York City.
Other movie details
Also on the same casting call, it was revealed that the film’s location would be in Atlanta, Georgia and that Andrew Garfield would reprise the lead role for the third time. Dane DeHaan, who plays the role of Peter’s best friend Harry, would also return and be the Green Goblin.
It is likely that Garfield would have a new leading lady in “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” who would assume the role of MJ, following the death of Gwen Stacy, played by Emma Stone in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.”
Bill Beckman Casting also disclosed that the movie is due for release in 2016.
Sony Pictures has yet to confirm or deny this supposed casting call and movie details with an official announcement.
