The new season of “The Affair” will likely focus strongly on Noah’s relationships, and according to rumors, the writers will put the character in some quite complicated situations. It’s not unusual for this show to make its love stories as messy as possible, but Noah could find himself in a particularly tough spot if some of these rumors are true. Split between his ex-wife and a new romantic interest, he will have to think hard about his future; plus, there are rumors that there is even more planned for him on the romantic front.
We’ve already seen talks about Noah’s new romantic interest in season 3, and it’s been confirmed that Irene Jacob will play the role of the new character, Juliette Le Gall. According to the initial previews for the season, Noah will find himself relying on the new woman in his life for help with getting over his traumatic past, and the two will get close quite fast as the season progresses. It’s not hard to imagine the jump to a romantic relationship from there. Of course, there’s the “small” issue of Noah’s current relationship with Alison.
On the other hand, there are also indicators that Helen is not really over her ex-husband yet, and she might have an active presence in the new season. It’s not yet clear if Noah will reciprocate those feelings or if Helen will be mostly left on her own, but we doubt the producers are just going to put the story between the two characters to rest that easily.
Some fans are even speculating that Noah will find himself having to think really hard about what he wants, and who makes him truly happy. If that’s true, we expect it to become a major part of the new season’s plot, although it will likely take some time for the story to get there. After all, Noah will have to get close to his new love interest first, and the producers will definitely want to give this arc a few episodes to unfold properly.
Still, that might be just wishful thinking from the show’s fans, as official reports claim that Noah will be completely detached from his past relationship, and will be moving forward. That’s what we would expect from someone in his position, but it’s also too obvious as a solution. There might be more that the writers are planning and we’re simply not being given the full picture. After all, this is “The Affair”, and if fans aren’t kept in the dark at least to some extent, it just wouldn’t be in the spirit of the production.
Then there are the constant speculations about a possible extra party in the love circle around Noah. It’s perfectly possible that the producers are planning to introduce another woman at some point but are keeping quiet about it. There are quite a few women involved in the story already though, so that might be taking things a bit too far, at least unless someone is taken out of the equation.
That wouldn’t be a surprise in itself, although we can’t really guess who the producers might choose to remove. Helen and Juliette are both viable candidates if the situation ever got to that, and some fans actually seem to suspect that Juliette is more of a temporary character and won’t be kept around for a long time.
