According to Katsuhiro Harada, producer of “Tekken”, development work on “Tekken x Street Fighter” has been coming along quite well, and the new title is coming closer and closer to its official release. He claimed that the studio is currently pretty far ahead into its development, and they’ve already decided on the official lineup of characters. For many of them, their main assets have been prepared as well.
This, according to Harada, includes things like polygon models, moves, and systems, and the game is starting to take some actual shape at this point. Of course, there’s probably still a lot to implement, as character models are just a tiny fraction of the work that has to be done on a title like this, but we are hopeful that we’re going to see some more detailed news on the development progress soon.
The game’s producer Katsuhiro Harada has had to divide his attention quite a bit lately, as he’s been working on “Tekken 7”, “Pokken Tournament” and other titles at the same time, so hopefully he’ll be able to give the new “Tekken x Street Fighter” the kind of attention that it deserves. Reportedly, he hasn’t been too busy for the game, but we don’t know if he’ll be able to maintain that situation for too long.
Harada also talked about the potential release date of the game, admitting that the studio is still not sure when they should put it out on the market exactly. Currently, both the “Street Fighter” and “Tekken” franchises have been moving in new directions, and we don’t know how much this is going to influence the development of the current crossover title.
In any case, there is a lot of potential in “Tekken x Street Fighter”, and many fans of both franchises are excited for the new release, patiently waiting for any kinds of news about its development. However, news has been coming out rather slowly, and there is still a lot that has to be done on the game in order to get it ready for release.
Or even for a preview, for that matter – as we said above, development work is still at the initial asset stage, so other than showing us a few previews of the characters themselves, the developers don’t have that much to show to the public.
It’s been three years since the release of the counterpart to this title made by Capcom, “Street Fighter x Tekken”, which came out to mostly positive reception in March 2012. Because of this, many fans on both sides have been looking at the new release very eagerly.
It’s interesting to note that this kind of crossover can be very beneficial for both studios, as it basically doubles the amount of attention on the game, and allows them to get even more exposure without having to put a lot of effort into their marketing. Both studios already have a pretty sizable following in the first place and it’s not like they tend to have troubles with their marketing in general, but this doesn’t mean that they couldn’t use the extra help.
The biggest question for the new game right now remains about its release date. We don’t know when the studio is planning to bring it out on the market, and it’s possible that Katsuhiro Harada might want to let things calm down around him a little bit first, wrapping up his work on some projects before moving on to that one more seriously.
