‘Tekken 7’ Developer Looking to Break the Record of Exclusivity of Gaming Consoles with Planned Cross-Play for the Fighting Game!

The fighting game “Tekken 7” has yet to hit the gaming consoles and the PC after it was launched in the Japanese gaming arcades in July last year.

Japanese game developer Bandai Namco said last year that a gaming console version of “Tekken 7” shall be forthcoming before the end of 2015 or early 2016 but that did not happen.

Instead, Bandai Namco announced early this year that a game variant officially titled “Tekken 7: Fated Retribution” shall be coming to the gaming arcades again this coming July in Japan.

While the developer did not say exactly its intention for announcing “Tekken 7: Fated Retribution,” critics believe that it was meant to quench gamer thirst for the PC and console versions of “Tekken 7.”

Now, there are reports saying that the possible reason why the release date of “Tekken 7” to the PC and the gaming consoles is experiencing a delay because Bandai Namco is apparently looking to break the exclusivity of gaming consoles with the upcoming game, reports the University Herald.

Accordingly, the Japanese game developer is planning a cross-platform play implementation for “Tekken 7” both on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. The development team already has an idea how to do it but there are still some issues or kinks that needed to be iron out first.

It was “Tekken 7” creator Katsuhiro Harada who revealed during last week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 held in Los Angeles, California that they are looking at a cross-play implementation for the two gaming consoles but are having some problems on the willingness of both console makers to allow such to happen.

Microsoft appears to be in favor of the cross-play prospect and has offered to make its Xbox One ready for such. The company even invited other interested networks to connect to Xbox Live and Sony’s PlayStation Network was one of those who were invited.

But Sony has yet to make an official statement or position on the proposal of Bandai Namco. According to insiders, it might still be a while before Sony would make its position or reply to the proposal.

One of the best fighting games

“Tekken 7” is a great reminder to the gaming community that it is actually one of the best fighting games around these days.

Bandai Namco managed to show a gameplay trailer and a playthrough to a good number of fans during the E3 2016 and it was clear that the developer made major changes to “Tekken 7” from its predecessor “Tekken 6.”

Just like its predecessor game, the fighting still takes place in a 3D space but it feels so much more parallel than it was before.

Those who were able to try out the game playthrough were one in saying that “Tekken 7” now has a certain level of fluidity that is quite impressive.

“Tekken 7” also gave some of the old characters drastic makeovers that Hwoarang and Yoshimitsu now look very different. The game’s new characters also look great including the massive and hulking Gigas. But the gamer favorite is naturally Akuma and that was evident during the E3 2016, reports Know Techie.

Heightening gamer expectations

Gamer expectations on “Tekken 7” were also heightened all the more when series producer Katsuhiro Harada said in a recent interview that when the game makes the leap from the arcades to the gaming consoles, it is going to be the most complete and enhanced version to date.

Harada added that Bandai Namco is also working on a special content for “Tekken 7” particularly for PlayStation 4 gamers, though he did not specify or hinted any specific detail about it.

Speculations are rife that “Tekken 7” might finally release on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One before the end of this year.
