A tender moment in the episode was when Scott starts training Liam to be the new alpha starting with being the lacrosse team captain.
Scott reminds his beta that he won’t have anyone else when Scott leaves for college that is why he needs to step up because Beacon Hills needs a new alpha. The conversation was reminiscent when Derek mentored Scott to be the alpha werewolf.
However, the real shocker in the episode was the return of Stiles’ mom, Claudia. Fans will remember that Stiles’ mom died when he was a child. If Stiles never existed this meant that the sheriff’s wife would not have died.
Claudia’s presence brings more mystery as to how Stiles’ return would mean for his dad. Speaking to TV Line, showrunner Jeff Davis said that the return of Claudia was a decision they made when they wanted to see what would be a life without Stiles for everybody else including the sheriff.
Scott and the sheriff’s dynamic was also affected seeing as they don’t have that father-son relationship anymore. Davis also notes that more of Liam and Scott’s brotherly relationship will be explored in the current season.
The showrunner also addressed the show’s longest running mystery – Stiles’ real name. Speaking to TV Line, Jeff said that the word mischief is a definite clue to learning what Stilinski’s first name is.
