Since rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop in November last year, Google has been very busy with coming up with patches and firmware updates on its highly-touted mobile operating system, which the American multinational technology company dubbed as the biggest update for Android.
But as it turned out, Android 5.0 Lollipop was not only Google’s biggest, it was also a major disappointment given the numerous bugs, issues, and problems that came with it.
Unlike Nexus and Motorola however, Samsung played it smart in as far as rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop mobile OS to its devices is concerned. Instead of joining the bandwagon of early adopters of the Android 5.0 Lollipop, the Korean tech giant took it slow and easy so when problems started arising on the devices that took on the new mobile OS, Samsung smartphones and devices were mostly spared from it.
That’s why it is noticeable that it is only after the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge in March this year that the Korean tech giant started considering rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop on its other devices, both old and new.
Most of the latest smartphones of Samsung today come out of the box with either the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop or the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop on it and hardly any on Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Lollipop on 2012 flagship smartphone
Even Samsung’s 2013 flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S3, which was regarded before as the fastest phone in the world, data and command processing wise, now either sports Android 5.0.1 Lollipop or Android 5.0.2 Lollipop on it, or at least if the users are not resorting to custom ROM to update their handsets to higher versions of the Android OS.
Developers have already come up with custom ROM based on Android 5.1 Lollipop and the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop but it’s up to users if they are willing to take on the unofficial updates.
Considering the age factor, it is important for users to upgrade the mobile operating system of their smartphones to turn their units not only relevant in terms of current apps, but also to make it the best it can always be with latest features.
The same holds true for the Samsung Galaxy S3. While three years is relatively old by today’s smartphone standards, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is still one of the better handsets in the market today and it can still hold its own against some of the flagships of other companies.
Superb performance
It may no longer be as powerful since the processors of today’s mobile devices have significantly improved a great deal, the Samsung Galaxy S3 banks on its excellent and superb performance to keep its loyal and sentimental users quite satisfied with it.

How is mobile update
I’m not sure that I’ve got the verdict. Should I install 5.02 on my 2 year old S3, or not?
It’s been a pretty good phone.
