Veteran action star Sylvester Stallone has earned a 2016 Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his latest portrayal of his legendary character Rocky Balboa in the movie “Creed” that starred Michael B. Jordan.
Observers say that the actor got the nod of the critics because his performance as Rocky Balboa in “Creed” is his most complex and moving yet to date.
According to Or-Politics.com, the more modern-day stories felt reassuringly old-fashioned from the appealingly warm and self-effacing “Creed.”
It is actually a spinoff movie of the “Rocky” franchise and it is obvious that Sylvester Stallone does not have full hands on the movie as he is just a supporting actor on it.
“Creed” may have been the titular movie for upstart young actor Michael B. Jordan as he played the role of Adonis Johnson, the son of Apollo Creed, but Sylvester Stallone’s signature were all over the film.
Maturity and self-confidence
In a late review of “Creed,” Breitbart feels that Sylvester Stallone really deserves the 2016 Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor because the veteran action star showed a kind of maturity and self-confidence that people don’t see too often in Hollywood or any place else these days.
Amid the triumph of “Rocky Balboa” back in 2006, Sly released the reins of the character that made him famous, turned them over to a young director named Ryan Coogler, and did not even participate in the writing of the screenplay.
As a result, “Creed” came out as a movie that both Stallone and his iconic character Rocky Balboa richly deserve. The good news is that Director Coogler wisely updates the franchise without attempting to reboot or rewrite it while paying tribute to the Rocky Balboa mythology without going to any kind of spell-breaking self-awareness.
Critics note that “Creed” is a film about the importance of fathers. Adonis has a wonderful and loving mother, but she is not enough. He has been deprived of nothing other than a father and it has surely left a hole in him.
Such need is what draws him to boxing and ultimately to Rocky Balboa and “Creed” made sure that viewers get what it is driving at early on.
An Oscar nomination too
Many observers believe that Stallone shall also earn a Best Supporting Actor nomination from the Academy Awards when it releases its own list soon.
The 73rd Golden Globes Award will be held on January 10, 2016, and the Oscars will come a few weeks later.
“Creed” actually gives viewers, both young and old, the idea how good an actor Sylvester Stallone is. And his performance in the movie made sure that nobody will forget because his acting is one moment that viewers can certainly take home with them.
Those who have not seen “Creed” should watch it soon so that they would know how great an actor Sly is with the added bonus of who actually won in the secret rubber match between Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed.
Meanwhile, the fourth installment to “The Expendables” movie franchise will deviate from the traditional release date pattern of one film every two years. The first movie was released in 2010, followed by “The Expendables 2” in 2012. The third movie was released last year.
If the fourth movie is to be consistent with the release pattern of its predecessors, it should come out next year.
Unfortunately, there will be no “The Expendables 4” hitting theaters next year. Instead, the movie will be shown in 2017.
There have been speculations about who the new cast members of the action movie ensemble because it has been the tradition of the franchise to add popular action stars for every film regardless of whether they are the good guys or bad guys.
The first to have been confirmed to be considered by Sylvester Stallone himself, the producer and lead actor of the franchise, is wrestling legend Hulk Hogan.
