During the San Diego ComicCon held over the weekend, Director James Gunn has confirmed previous rumors that Sylvester Stallone is going to be a part of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” the sequel to the 2014 Marvel film.
While many were speculating that it would be an improbable mission to get the veteran Hollywood action star to get a small role in a Marvel film, Gunn was proud to announce during the event that they were able to convince Stallone to do so.
Gunn explained that Stallone’s role in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is not a huge one but it is going to be a very key and important role. He added that the role is crucial but he refuses to divulge what it is going to be, preferring to just say that the “Rocky” star is a great and key supporting actor to the movie due to hit theaters on May 5, 2017, reports Games Radar.
Some critics have lauded Stallone for agreeing to do a bit role in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” because it only shows that he is a mature veteran actor and no longer puts a premium on his star status.
Stallone has obviously become one of the more discerning and mature action stars in Hollywood who is more interested in delivering quality performance and movie rather than make money out of it and be very popular. He does not need both of those as he is not just famous, he is also well-moneyed.
Guessing game on Sly’s character
James Gunn also showed a sizzle reel footage of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” during the San Diego ComicCon and it showed Stallone on it although it did not give away much information about the actor’s character.
Based on the costume he was seen wearing in the footage, Sylvester Stallone’s mysterious character could be one of the new Ravagers. Although some fans are also saying that he is going to take on the role of a Nova Corps members.
Gunn kept everything to his chest during the presentation panel of the movie at the San Diego ComicCon so the subsequent guessing game is expected to continue, reports Movieweb.
Rumors about Stallone being taken in by “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” started making the rounds online when the actor was spotted in March leaving the same hotel that the cast of the Marvel movie was staying. He was also seen holding a script back then.
Shortly thereafter, he was again spotted on the set of the filming of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” wearing a costume similar to Judge Dredd, which he also took in a movie back in 1995.
Family holiday for a birthday treat
Incidentally, Sylvester Stallone turned 70 years old on July 6 and he could not have picked a better way to mark his life’s milestone by celebrating it with his whole family through a holiday in the south of France.
The day before his birthday, Sly and his wife Jennifer Flavin, with their three beautiful daughters Sophia, Sistene, and Scarlet, were spotted arriving at the Nice airport in France.
The Hollywood veteran action star looked in great spirits leading the way for his wife and three daughters as they stroll out of the terminal.
Stallone wore a simple sportswear ensemble for the holiday trip, pairing his tracksuit bottoms with a black T-shirt and a white zip-up top.
He also wore a pair of silver trainers and accessorized with a large black bag slung over one shoulder.
The family was spotted flying out of the Los Angeles International Airport on July 4. It seems like the family had the trip all planned out for Stallone’s 70th birthday celebration as they wanted to be at their destination before July 6 that is why they made the trip on the Fourth of July.
