‘Switched at Birth’ Season 5 to See Bay and Daphne Rushing Back to Kansas to Save the Marriage of John and Kathryn!

Freeform, the former ABC Family network, has yet to announce the airing date of Season 5 of the American teen/family drama TV series “Switched at Birth” but speculations about possible spoilers have been going around the internet rather wildly indicative of how popular the show is.

During the Season 4 finale of “Switched at Birth,” Bay Madeline Kennish, played by Vanessa Marano, received a phone call which had her running towards Daphne Paloma Vazquez, played by Katie Leclerc.

The two were about to leave to China when Bay got the call. The show did not reveal who the caller was. It was a huge cliffhanger and led fans and viewers of “Switched at Birth” to speculate on what the call was about.

However, most of the rumors state that Bay and Daphne would rush back home to Kansas because John and Kathryn Kennish will finally call it quits and have their marriage divorced, notes Crossmap.

Confirming the likely divorce

Show creator Lizzy Weiss recently shared some details about the upcoming Season 5 of “Switched at Birth.” She said that the next season will be loaded with events because she and the writers will be inputting a lot of ideas into the plot. But she also expressed caution that not everything about the TV series has been confirmed just yet.

The showrunner also confirmed that one of the reasons why Bay and Daphne would return is due to the relationship problems of Kathryn, played by Lea Thompson, and John, played by D.W. Moffett, details the Christian Post.

She also hinted that the two could indeed be facing divorce in subsequent episodes of Season 5. Kathryn is apparently dealing with financial woes as she has been freaking out about losing the car wash business and having money problems too. She is also getting worried about becoming a grandmother so soon.

Weiss said that they really thought that it would be fun to see Kathryn panic. However, she also seemed to offer a way out of the relationship woes when she said that in everybody’s marriage, there are bumps so everyone must work and push past them.

Divorce is better than death

The rumored divorce between John and Kathryn is apparently much better than the other set of rumors swirling around as early as last month.

Apparently, some rumors were saying that the reason that Bay and Daphne would be returning home to Kansas is because John would be passing away.

It could be recalled that during Season 4, John was already suffering from a minor heart problem, making fans worry that his character would be killed off. John survived the heart problem only to be faced with another.

The same set of rumors even went on to expand that because of the financial problems of the family, it would be too stressful for John that it would affect his health and his heart problems will deteriorate.

But with the confirmation of Lizzy Weiss that the reason why Bay and Daphne would be returning to Kansas is because of the struggling relationship of John and Kathryn, it is unlikely that John would be dying in Season 5 of “Switched at Birth.”

Season 5 will also dwell on the aftermath of the breakup of Bay and Emmett during the previous season. Weiss said that with some distance between them, Emmett now realizes how Bay felt about him not standing by her.

The showrunner said that she loved the scene for the moment when Emmett told Bay of all the things that she has gone through the year and she is still standing and doing great. Emmett added that it is a testament to their relationship in the long run.

switched at birth season 5

Set in the Kansas City metropolitan area, “Switched at Birth” revolves around two teenagers who were switched at birth and grew up in very different environments. Bay was raised in an affluent suburb while Daphne grew up in a working-class area.

Bay eventually discovers from a school lab assignment that her AB blood type is incompatible with her type-A parents John and Kathryn. Genetic testing also confirmed that she is not the biological daughter of the Kennishes, which led to the revelation that the hospital mistakenly switched her with another newborn, which is Daphne.
