‘Switched at Birth’ Season 5 to See Baby of Toby and Lily Playing a Large Role in the TV Series, Discloses Showrunner!

No, the baby of Toby Kennish, played by Lucas Grabeel, and Lily Summers, played by Rachel Shenton, would not be stealing the show when Season 5 of the American teen/family drama TV series “Switched at Birth” returns to Freeform in April.

But the infant would surely play a large role in terms of keeping the marriage of the two intact and stronger, reveals Lizzy Weiss, showrunner of “Switched at Birth.”

The show will still be about teens Daphne, played by Katie Leclerc, and Bay, played by Vanessa Marano, as they return to Kansas after spending 10 months in China after getting a call during the Season 4 finale asking them to come home.

In a recent interview, Weiss revealed that there will be a 10-month time jump when Season 5 of “Switched at Birth” returns to Freeform, the former ABC Family network, and it will feature what happened to Bay and Daphne during the past 10 months.

Weiss said that she and the show writers wanted to add a cliffhanger so that if the show was lucky enough to come back in the future, they have something to jump off to.

She added that it felt natural to jump the show a little bit and take the cast of characters into their future. She thinks that there are a lot of stuff that can be talked about and those questions would all be answered when the show returns in April.

Weiss explained that it was necessary for Bay and Daphne to stay in a different country for 10 months instead of the original six-week vacation as it helps establish how Daphne landed her job and how Bay got to learn a little of Mandarin.

Helping patch things up

Weiss also teased that another important plotline of Season 5 is the fate of the parents of the two girls.

It could be recalled that during the Season 4 finale of “Switched at Birth,” Bay and Daphne received an important phone call which asked them to pack their bags in China and go home as soon as possible.

Viewers have been speculating that Bay and Daphne can actually help patch things up between their parents before the probability of divorce comes into the picture.

Filming for Season 5 of “Switched at Birth” has already begun since December and Lizzy Weiss has been sharing the updates via her Twitter account.

It is likely that only the first half of the season will be completed by the production by the time the first episode of Season 5 airs on Freeform. But it is unclear what kind of production schedule the cast and crew are following so it is possible that every episode for the season may be completed sooner than later, notes the Christian Today.

A difficult episode to title

Meanwhile, Weiss took to Twitter on February 9 and mentioned that she was in the process of thinking of a title for episode 5 of Season 5 of “Switched at Birth,” which the showrunner claims as the hardest episode to title for some unknown reason, notes Enstarz.

The following day, Weiss also tweeted that the episode is the most ambitious and outside of the box in the entire series.

A few weeks ago, it was also announced that Gilles Marini, who played Angelo on the TV series, will be making an appearance on the 100th episode of “Switched at Birth” though it is unclear when exactly will the episode air.

It would also be interesting how the showrunner and the director make this work considering that Angelo is already dead. Speculations are saying that it could be in the form of a flashback or a dream sequence but that would be known when “Switched at Birth” returns to air beginning this coming April.

switched at birth season 5

The upcoming premiere episode of Season 5 of “Switched at Birth” is reportedly titled “The Call” and it is likely meant to tie up loose ends during the big cliffhanger in the Season 4 finale.

Given how the fourth season of the TV series ended, the first episode of Season 5 appears very aptly titled, according to viewers and critics.
