‘Supergirl’ TV Series to Cast Actors who Previously Played Superman, Supergirl

“Supergirl” the upcoming TV series on CBS appears to be playing nostalgic in an effort to further drumbeat the show.

Melissa Benoist is the young actress who shall take on the lead role of Supergirl a.k.a. Kara Zor-El or Kara Danvers.

Latest reports have it that Dean Cain and Helen Slater have been casted in the upcoming TV series but their respective roles remain a mystery, that fans could not help but guess.

Dean Cain once played the role of Superman and Clark Kent in the TV series “Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” in the 90s opposite Teri Hatcher. Helen Slater, on the other hand, was the actress who played Supergirl in the 1984 “Supergirl” film.

Their inclusion to the cast sparks insinuation that they may actually reprise their old roles in the new TV series, reports the Australian edition of the International Business Times.

Guessing on social media

Fans on social media have been guessing the mystery roles that Dean Cain and Helen Slater will play on the “Supergirl” TV series. Some are actually discussing on Twitter possible details or scenarios too.

One fan said that based on recent casting reports about the TV series, Helen Slater would not be playing Kara’s Kryptonian mother Alura because Laura Benanti has been cast to take on that role.

Helen used Twitter to express her gratitude to CBS, Warner Bros, the “Supergirl” producers, and casting director David Rappaport for her new role on TV. But Dean Cain has yet to make an official statement.

It was previously reported that Lauran Benanti of “Nashville” will take on the role of Supergirl’s birth mother Alura Zor-El.

Chyler Leigh of “Grey’s Anatomy” has been confirmed in the series and she will be playing the role of Kara’s foster sister Alexandra who is working in a secret government agency.

Filming for the series will begin this March.

A star-studded TV series

In addition to Dean Cain and Helen Slater, the TV series has also confirmed earlier the casting of Calista Flockhart who shall be playing the role of Cat Grant, the media mogul who is Kara’s boss.

Calista Flockhart is the star of the former TV series “Ally McBeal.”

As early as September 2014, CBS has already obtained the rights for “Supergirl” TV series from DC Comics. Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler are producing the show, in collaboration with Warner Bros TV.

Berlanti is actually running the two other DC Comics adaptations “Arrow” and “The Flash” and both are doing well, ratings-wise.

The upcoming launching of “Supergirl” series on CBS means that the network will be joining the company of Fox, ABC, NBC and The CW in the production of superhero TV series. Fox currently has “Gotham;” NBC has “Hellblazer” and “Constantine” while ABC has “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Agent Carter.”
