‘Supergirl’ Season 2 Brewing Romance Between Kara and Mon-El Might be Nipped in the Bud Because the Latter is Holding a Big Secret from the Former

The second season of the American superhero TV series “Supergirl” on The CW is currently on its midseason break after its eighth episode aired on November 28 that featured Cyborg Superman.

However, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg recently said in an interview that part of the focus of the second half of “Supergirl” Season 2 is on the up and coming relationship between Kara, the alter-ego of Supergirl, played by Melissa Benoist, and Mon-El, played by Chris Wood, notes the International Business Times.

Kreisberg hinted that the blossoming romance between Kara and Mon-El might be nipped in the bud once she finds out that Mon-El has not been completely honest with her ever since he arrived on Earth.

The executive producer teased that Kara might not react very well when she finds out that Mon-El is actually keeping a big secret from her.

He explained that secrets are normally not healthy in a relationship and obviously Mon-El is holding onto something big.

The real Prince of Daxam?

Kreisberg added that viewers already got an idea that Mon-El’s life on Daxam might not be over just yet with the preview of the space farers who are on the hunt for him. The showrunner said that such storyline shall play a big part in his relationship with Kara, moving forward.

Mon-El has previously told Kara and her friends that he worked as a palace guard for the royal family of Daxam before he found himself on Earth.

When Krypton was destroyed, its debris trickled onto its sister planet Daxam, causing also its eventual destruction.

Mon-El claimed that he was trying to bring the Prince of Daxam to safety when the devastation of the planet started so when they saw a Kryptonian pod, Mon-El decided to send the prince away. But the prince locked him in the pod instead and ordered him to save himself.

Speculations are now rife that Mon-El could actually be the Prince of Daxam and that would explain why there are aliens who are still looking for him.

Kreisberg refuses to comment on the speculations, suggesting instead for fans to catch the episode 9 of “Supergirl” Season 2 when it returns on The CW on January 23.

The importance of Cat Grant in the series

Those who have followed “Supergirl” from its first season on CBS and then on its current second season on The CW, know that the major difference was the absence of Cat Grant, played by Calista Flockhart of “Ally McBeal” fame.

Calista agreed to be part of “Supergirl” as Cat Grant on the condition that filming would only be in Los Angeles since she and her family are based there.

So when “Supergirl” Season 2 was taken over by The CW from CBS, it needed to move its filming location to Vancouver, Canada, which also threw Calista’s contract with the TV series out the window.

Some critics and fans of “Supergirl” say that Cat Grant’s importance in Season 1 remains unrivaled to this day. It can be recalled that she became Kara’s muse, giving her and the city hope as well as save the day, notes Buddy TV.

They believe that Kara’s inspiration is gone with the departure of Cat Grant and thus far, “Supergirl” Season 2 is trying to make up for Cat’s absence but appears to be falling short on that aspect.

It can be recalled that in the second episode of “Supergirl” Season 2, Cat Grant left National City and CatCo.

However apathetic Cat may have been, she became a shining light for the series, and her relationship with Kara felt inspired. She became Kara’s mentor, showing Supergirl how to believe in herself and her powers and be the hero that National City deserved.
