Super Mario Run to Release on the iPhone First Followed by Android, How Good Will the Title be? Let’s See

Android users are probably not happy to know that Nintendo decided to bring Super Mario Run to the iPhone before any other smartphone. Shigeru Miyamoto spoke to Yahoo Finance during an interview this month, and he declared that Nintendo chose iPhone instead of Android because of the stability of Apple’s operating system.

According to him, one of the reasons they focused on iPhone is because the platform is highly stable and can bring out the level of response that they expect in games. However, he doesn’t mean that Android devices don’t have the same level of responsiveness.

At the same time, there are many Android devices and trying to develop a game which works across all of them, is a difficult task. For a long time, Google has heard issues related to Android’s fragmentation.

The term means that there are a large number of Android devices and users worldwide, who are running an out-dated version of the operating system. According to the GOOGL data updated by Google on 5th September, only 18.7% of its Android user base was running the latest Marshmallow Operating System.

About a third of Android users worldwide were running the Lollipop Operating System launched in 2014 and 15% of those devices were running on JellyBean, introduced way back in 2012. Compared to that, Apple has done a great job indeed.

Apple manages to run all its iPhones and iPads on the latest operating system and within several months, the company gets 90% of its users on the latest launched iOS. Apple’s iOS 10, which launched earlier this month, is already running on approximately one-quarter of all Apple devices, as reported by market analysts.

For developers, fragmentation is a serious issue. A lot of users are running on Google’s old operating system, and developers have to support them. It means that developers must ensure compatibility with such operating systems that are quite old in many cases and not as stable as the latest Android releases.

Google isn’t responsible for Android’s fragmentation. The company makes software and provides it to hardware makers around the world. Whenever a new version or an update is released, all Google can do is make it available for hardware makers around the world. It is up to the manufacturers to release that update on their devices.

Nintendo is doing something very different with Super Mario Run. The company is deciding to release a Mario game on a non-Nintendo platform. Over the years, Nintendo always tried launching games on their platform so that people end up being more interested in them.

It is always seen that Nintendo prefers keeping Mario and other games on its property. However, Super Mario Run is coming to IOS in October and on Android in 2017. Therefore, the game’s existence is noteworthy. On the surface, this game is very much similar to so many Mario games that we have seen in the past.

Super Mario Run

It comes with the same kind of colourful style, like the New Super Mario Bros. However, the gameplay is somewhat different. With the help of touchscreen controls, the aspect of precision platforming is difficult to implement on mobile devices.

As a result, Nintendo doesn’t use an on-screen directional pad like many other games. Instead, Nintendo makes it in such a way that Mario runs automatically.

The players need to worry about one simple thing, touching the screen so as to make him jump. There are certain variations to it. You can hold on the screen longer to make Mario jump higher, and you can do a quick tap to accomplish a low hop.
