The fifth season finale of “Suits” was probably the most intense season finale of the series to date. Patrick J. Adams’ Mike Ross was put behind bars after being busted for being a fake lawyer of Gabriel Macht’s Harvey Specter.
The duo has been able to hide Mike’s secret and pull off a great front throughout the past four seasons until they were busted during Season 5 and was tried in court.
It was hinted all throughout the fifth season that the days of Ross and Specter’s pretentious acts were already numbered and fans are thrilled that the series will be moving towards a different direction for Season 6.
However, some fans also worry that the huge shake-up in the legal drama’s storyline will mean that the end is near for the USA Network hit.
While fans speculated that Season 6 will be featuring less of Mike, executive producer Aaron Korsh says otherwise.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Korsh reveals that Mike’s predicament in Season 6 will bring in more storylines that fans will surely look forward to.
The showrunner says that the upcoming season is really about moving forward. It’s like starting from the bottom with Mike, the firm, and practically everyone else.
Fans speculate that Mike will eventually get out of prison and earn a law degree this season, but Korsh said that it won’t happen. He made it clear that the upcoming season will focus on Mike’s life in prison.
Korsh says that since they still don’t see the show ending, Mike earning his law degree will certainly extend the show’s timeline. Otherwise, the excitement of the story might lower down, the showrunner admits.
The showrunner promises that the events in Season 5 and its aftermath will have a huge effect on the show in a positive way.
Now that Mike is forced to live in a new environment, his situation will definitely push him to grow up since his thinking was always like that of a child.
Plus, he doesn’t have to lie about anything anymore. Ironically, Korsh states that Mike will actually find freedom in prison.
With regards to rumors that the upcoming season will jump two years after Mike’s prison deal, the showrunner clarified that the legal drama will not have any time jump and emphasized that he does not want a cliffhanger and then undo it, Yahoo TV reports.
Breathecast reports that the upcoming season is set to have a much more intense setting to emphasize how will Mike bounce back from his imprisonment. It will also showcase how Harvey’s attempts to get Mike out of prison.
According to the Parent Herald, Season 6 will pick up immediately where Season 5 left off. The website states that Mike’s life in prison won’t definitely be idle.
When asked if the college dropout will be aiding wrongfully convicted inmates with his legal expertise while in there, Korsh responded that Mike will always be in service despite being in jail.
The series was renewed for another 16-episode run in July last year. There are speculations that the season will premiere on June 29, but USA Network still has not announced an exact date although the series usually airs sometime around June.
In Season 5’s finale, entitled “25th Hour,” Mike took the prison deal that Leslie Hope’s Anita Gibbs offered him, provided that she doesn’t go after Harvey or any of the other partners at Pearson Specter Litt law firm.
She learns that Mike was in fact not found guilty, but chose not to tell the latter the truth, thereby saving him the pain of knowing what a huge mistake he made.
Mike and Rachel, played by Meghan Markle, also decides to get married, but Mike changes his mind in the end.
