Season 6 of the American legal drama TV series “Suits” premiered on the USA Network on July 13 with a big bang and it came with a surprising twist towards the end that viewers were caught flatfooted with it.
As previously reported before its premiere, the sixth season of “Suits” picked up where the Season 5 finale left off and saw Mike Ross, played by Patrick J. Adams, checking in at Danbury Prison after pleading guilty to fraud. He is to serve a prison sentence of two years.
Meanwhile, the Pearson Specter Litt is in shambles with the court decision on Mike that forced most of its employees to abandon the firm. As if the firm’s troubles were not enough, Jessica also found out that there is a class action against the firm for every case that Mike has ever worked on, reports iDigital Times.
While Mike was adjusting to his new life in prison, Jessica, Donna, and a hostile Louis go back in panic at the firm. Rachel and Harvey Specter, played by Gabriel Macht, meet for a drink before heading to the office to calm their three colleagues.
Harvey thought about giving up everything and Jessica also started doubting her ability to run a firm. But Rachel had the calmer head among all of them and gave the two a pep talk.
Jessica resorted to smoking weed as a temporary solution to their humungous problem. Louis eventually joined her to calm his nerves. That was when Harvey took all the blame for getting everyone in the mess when he took in Mike to the firm knowing too well that the latter was not a lawyer but only someone who has a photographic memory and very good in finding ways out of sticky situations.
Louis tried to find a way to get back the old lawyers to return and work for the firm again but one IT guy left something that alerted partners that they are being hacked by all the old lawyers looking to steal information about all the firm’s clients.
That’s when they realized that they needed to move all the firm’s money elsewhere and invest it. In that way, clients can no longer sue the firm for their money because they won’t have any.
A fraud being victimized by a fraud
Mike got imprisoned for fraud and ironically, on his first day in prison he became a victim of fraud by a certain inmate named Frank Gallo who became very friendly to him right on the get-go.
Given his vulnerability to the situation, Frank offered him the figurative shoulder to cry on as his cellmate. Frank’s willingness to share his personal struggles prompted Mike to trust him and prematurely do the same.
When Frank offered Mike a cell phone, he declined. But as they started hitting it off, his urged to talk to Rachel sets in. He just then asks Frank to borrow the cell phone to send one text message to Rachel to assure that he is okay in Danbury Prison.
Rachel was worried about Mike but she cannot know more about him until the scheduled monthly visit. So when she received Mike’s text of assurance, she felt relieved.
But Mike apparently spoke too soon because shortly thereafter, a prison guard opens their cell door and Frank leaves. When Mike asked why Frank is leaving, it was then that Frank told Mike that everything he told about Mike was just a ploy to get dirt on Harvey, who he described as the man who was responsible for his 13 years in prison.
As to how Frank would use the information to get back on Harvey would be known in the second episode of “Suits” Season 6 slated to air on July 20.
