Dark times are coming for the second half of “Suits” Season 5. According to cast member Sarah Rafferty, who plays Donna, the legal drama will get really dark as the season further unfolds.
Speaking to Vine Report during the Television Critics Association, Rafferty says that the upcoming episodes will pull everybody apart because everyone is at risk. She adds that Mike Ross’ arrest will see how everyone in the firm will be affected.
The 43-year-old actress also spoke about this new complicated situation and how it may present a potential problem in Donna’s relationship with Rachel, played by Meghan Markle.
The actress teases fans saying that now that Patrick J. Adams’ Mike Ross is under investigation, will that pit Gabriel Macht’s Harvey against him and if it does, will it also pit Donna against Rachel?
The actress reveals that future Season 5 episodes will answer these questions. She adds that how the writers dug into that storyline was just so good and that they had some good scenes around that.
Rafferty says that her character Donna does not fully understand the implications of Mike’s arrest, but she still believes that Harvey can eventually get them out of the mess.
Further fueling the show heading to a darker tone is the series creator and executive producer himself, Aaron Korsh.
Speaking to TV Line, the showrunner says that what happened with the midseason finale will greatly affect all of the characters.
Korsh spoke about revealing to fans who ratted Mike out and says that viewers will definitely know who did it sooner than later after the midseason premiere.
The showrunner also gets candid about Mike’s fate during the rest of the season. He says that Mike will struggle with the fact that while he did not do anything morally wrong, he did indeed broke the law by pretending to be a lawyer.
Korsh says that what Mike will be dealing with will be somewhere in between having a crisis of conscience and not.
The executive producer reveals that it won’t be stopping the authorities in trying to make consequence of his actions to be as soft as possible.
Initially, fans thought that the person who sold Mike out will be revealed during the midseason premiere, entitled “Blowback,” but no one was revealed even after the series’ long hiatus.
Season 5 of the legal drama will air its episode 12, entitled “Live to Fight” on February 3 and judging by the synopsis, it teases that Mike and Rick Hoffman’s Louis must identify an anonymous tipster in order to diffuse a damning piece of evidence.
The episode’s preview suggests that the focus is who sold out Mike. District Attorney Anita Gibbs is also seen threatening Specter that if he does something, he will come crashing down.
Meanwhile, Ross thinks that Gibbs doesn’t have any evidence against him. However, Gina Torres’ Jessica suspects that she must have something to take them all out.
Speaking to Collider, Rafferty revealed that the cast was beyond thrilled when they found out that they were finally going to address the repercussions of Mike committing fraud. Rafferty says that many fans are getting tired of how Mike was able to keep his charade this long.
The last scene in the promo sees Gibbs, Specter, and Ross in the judges’ chamber as Gibbs hands over a document to the judge hinting that it is her evidence on Mike. Another thing to watch out for the upcoming episode is Paulsen and Specter working together.
Gibbs is also proving her worth as the character who everyone loves to hate. According to Yibada, the ruthless Anita will stop at nothing to gather enough evidence to put both Harvey and Mike behind bars.
