“Suits” is a show based on the premise of showing that lies have consequences, especially long-term ones, so not many people were expecting it to have a happy development throughout its episodes. Sure, the series saw some beautiful moments between various characters and the overall tone wasn’t really that bad, but on the other hand there have also been plenty of dramatic moments that have kept fans on their toes quite successfully.
And now, season 5 has been running more tensely than ever with various developments that could possibly have harsh implications for the show’s future. Mike was turned in after all this time – something that fans knew would come sooner or later – but we still don’t know who was behind this, even though fans have various theories on the subject. Some are more prominent than others, but knowing the people who run this show, it’s entirely possible that the answer isn’t even that obvious and that we’re missing out something a bit more complicated.
Mike was actually arrested due to his lies, charged with fraud as he had developed his entire career based on a lie. We don’t know what’s going to happen to him in the future, but it’s entirely possible that he might have to face permanent consequences. It would be entirely in the style of this show, and the producers of “Suits” have generally been no strangers to strong drama and to putting their characters in very challenging, troubled situations.
There is a lot on the table for Mike as he will have to suffer from the fallout of his charges on several fronts, not just his professional one. He was getting ready to take his relationship with Rachel to the next level, something which is obviously going to have to be put on hold – or worse – if the charges brought up against him stick. Are we going to see a sad ending to “Suits” that puts Mike in prison, or is the show going to turn out in another way?
On the other hand, Harvey and Donna might potentially break up, something that has also been worrying fans quite a bit. They are a very adorable couple for many people following the show, and there would be a lot of disappointment in the community of “Suits” fans if the two characters were to split up. But in the end, that’s the way drama works – bad things happen to the characters that we all love just so the plot can move forward.
Many fans of the show have been arguing about the possible implication of the different outcomes that lie in front of Mike right now. While many fans would obviously be distraught to see him taken to prison at the end of the show, others are apparently convinced that this is the only right way to end the story and nothing else would make sense, given the way all episodes have developed since the beginning of the production.
The argument on that side is that it would be a bad example for all people watching the show if it was revealed that Mike was actually safe and sound in the end, having lied his way to a lucrative career path. Sure, he contributed a lot on his own, but he still jumped through hoops while other people were overcoming those obstacles legitimately and investing much more time and effort into their professional legal careers.
